These days, Kaunas and all of Lithuania are starting to elect their representatives in the Seimas. The election of V. Matijošaitis at the polls could have been predicted earlier – in press releases he constantly praised the Government and its leader – “the only one so concrete” Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.

“In order for Kaunas to continue constructive dialogue with the Government and Seimas, in addition to our representatives on the list of the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union, Aušra Papirtienė and Gediminas Vasiliauskas, we are delegating two other members of” United Kaunas ” : Ligita Valalytė and Karolina Žekaitė. The goal is to continue with important work. For me, as mayor, it was very good to work with the Prime Minister in both my first and second terms. I don’t look at political beliefs, I look at business qualities , the personal qualities of the people. It would be good if the “peasants” remained in power. Kaunas has started many projects. All, as we say, “ride”. We are building, we are doing “, V. Matijošaitis, who came to the City Hall Kaunas to vote on Thursday, justified his choice.

When asked how he assessed the chances of the four mentioned “United Kaunas” members in the elections, the mayor of Kaunas did not want to speculate.

“It just came to our attention then. People always love innovation, but … Some for change, and I for real work, what you can see. Don’t sleep. It would be better to have two terms, but those people who are they sit there forever and imagine that there are towers of the mind, they don’t really need to be there. Two terms are enough to define it by law. I would not have it anymore “, expressed V. Matijošaitis his opinion.

When asked if the opinion on what to vote was consistent with the family members, sons Šarūnas and Dainius, who are on the Kaunas City Council, the mayor responded without asking what they had chosen.

If the composition of the ruling coalition changes after these elections, the prime minister would become, say, the president of the conservatives Gabrielius Landsbergis, would there not be a confrontation between Kaunas and the government, would there be no threat to the implementation of the projects launched?

“It just came to our attention then. I don’t think it’s so strange to start waving swords,” replied V. Matijošaitis.

When asked if S. Skvernelis was not disappointed that he had not helped implement the plan to connect a part of the Kaunas district with the city, the mayor replied: “This is not the job of the Prime Minister. Unite naturally sometime. Always, if one suggests, something strange appears, which draws the sword and begins to wave. You probably don’t write a letter to America, you don’t tie a letter to a pigeon under your neck, you click on the message and read it there right away. “

When asked if the opposition between the “conservatives” and the “peasants” did not go beyond the limits, V. Matijošaitis revealed that the leader of the “conservatives” G. Landsbergis, who came to his office for the first time, supposedly he stood up; there was little need to put those legs on the table. .

“We are all strange and different,” smiled the mayor of Kaunas.

When asked if the results of the Seimas elections would not determine his choice: to stay for another term as mayor or not, V. Matijošaitis replied that it was necessary to end this term.

During the first two days of the preliminary vote in the Seimas elections, 36 thousand people have already expressed their will. 759 voters or 1.52 percent. of all those on the lists (2 million 449 thousand 683 people). The most active voters voted early in Kaunas in the constituencies of Centro-Žaliakalnis (3.96 percent) and Kalniečiai (2.81 percent), according to the Central Election Commission (CEC).
