Elections for the new Seimas are being held in Lithuania. The business information recalls the electoral procedure provided for in the Constitution and the law.

The Seimas are elected for four years. Ordinary parliamentary elections are held on the second Sunday in October of the fourth term. During 2016 the election will be held in the multinominal constituency at 12 o’clock for the party and two coalitions. The Seimas entered the party.

The remaining 71 seats in parliament will go to candidates who won in single-member electoral districts. In those constituencies where no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote on Sunday or receives at least a fifth of the electorate in that constituency with less than 40% turnout, a second round of elections will be held on October 25. . In general, only in a few single-member electoral districts is a member of the Seimas elected in the first round. In 2016, there were only three of those counties.

Too bad, the first session of the new Seimas, called by the president, takes place in mid-November, a couple of weeks after the results of the second round of the elections are finally approved. Final election results are expected to be confirmed before November 1.

The first session of the newly convened Seimas is opened by the Main Parliamentary Parliament. He presides over the session until the Seimas elects its new president.

On the day of the first session of the Seimas, the Government must resign. The president instructs the same cabinet to hold office temporarily until a new government is formed and assumed.
