It also requires the validation of rapid tests for COVID-19 antigens.

“Today, I appealed to Acting Minister of Health Aurelijus Verygas with a request to urgently develop an algorithm for the safe work of the Seimas and to take steps to finally validate rapid tests for COVID-19 antigens in Lithuania. Not only are they convenient, because they respond in a few minutes, but they are also almost three times cheaper than those used now, ”the president of Seimas reported on Facebook this Monday.

He emphasized that he hopes that the SAM will soon provide conditions for the management of personal flows and compliance with the measures of distances, hygiene and personal protection in the Seimas, whose compliance “would guarantee the safe and uninterrupted work of the Seimas during this important period for the state”.

“The minister’s proposal to close the Seimas for two weeks is not the answer. Yes, today we have decided to take a break from Wednesday to Thursday next week to prepare for the complete and safe work of the Seimas and make sure that the assembled parliamentarians in the Seimas they are not infected and have the opportunity to carry out the test ”, he said.

According to V.Čmilytė-Nielsen, there are many pressing issues on the Seimas agenda: from next year’s budget, the fluid change of governments and the fight against the coronavirus.

“Unfortunately, it is already available to everyone today due to measures taken not in time,” says the politician on Facebook.

Due to the spread of the coronavirus in the Seimas, A.Veryga asked the new parliamentary leadership to cancel the sessions for two weeks. On Monday, the Seimas Board decided to hold another session on Tuesday and then take a break of more than a week until December 3.

The Council of Health Experts convened by President Gitanas Nausėda recommends that Lithuania acquire rapid antigen tests. R.Veryga positively appreciates the offer, but emphasizes that due to the inflexible approach of the Public Procurement Service, Lithuania could acquire them at the earliest after a month and a half.
