Up to 200 volunteers searched for the Utena official who was missing and was later found dead: an investigation was launched, the circumstances are being clarified

Residents rushed to the rescue

The missing family members of the man from the early departure approached the police on Monday at around 4 pm and reported that A. Remeikis had disappeared without a trace.

The police officers immediately went to work, family, friends and acquaintances were interviewed. According to officials, the places A. Remeikis visited were inspected, but Monday’s searches were unsuccessful.

Upon learning of the search for the missing, some 200 volunteers gathered and rushed to help officials. Police said the Utena municipal community, employees of various institutions, shooters, police sympathizers, hunters and other good-hearted people helped.

Found body missing

On Tuesday around 1 pm, police officers, along with volunteers, began searching for the missing man. Shortly after, the body of a dead man was found near the Aukštakalnis park. It was suspected that it was the body of the missing person, as A. Remeikis left the house on Taikos Street on Monday at 7.30 in the morning to walk to the aforementioned park.

Police began searches near their usual place to walk, where they walked every morning and night.

The search stopped when relatives who arrived recognized the body.

“We would like to inform you that this afternoon, with the help of abundant law enforcement, the body of the wanted Audrius Remeikis was found in a forest near the house. Sincere condolences to family and loved ones.

Officials from the Utena County Sheriff’s Office thank everyone who gathered in large numbers and helped conduct the search, ”police said in a message sent.

Had health problems

Police said Tuesday that a pre-trial investigation was launched to determine the cause of death.

It is said that several versions will be reviewed, but it is suspected that A. Remeikis may have died from health problems.

Utena Mayor Alvydas Katinas told BNS that A. Remeikis had not been able to work due to health problems in recent weeks and that this week he was going to Vilnius for treatment.
