The European Championship in 2022 will start with an unusual schedule, immediately after the World Championship selection stage window, FIBA announced.
It was already clear that the European Championship would start on September 1, 2022, and today FIBA announced that just before the championship, from August 22 to 30, there will be a selection window for the World Championship.
As a result, the national team will be able to dedicate only one day to rest after the qualifying match.
32 teams will participate in the selection of the World Championship, of which 24 teams will also play in the European Championship 2022. Among them is Lithuania.
FIBA coordinated this decision with the state basketball federations.
The first selection window of the 2023 World Cup will take place in three months, from November 22 to 30. The second window will take place in February 2022, the third in June and the fourth just before the 2022 European Championship. The fifth window will take place in November 2022, the sixth in February 2023.
Lithuania will face France, Slovenia, Germany, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the group stage of the 2022 European Championship.
The top four teams in the group will advance to the eighth final of the European Championship.
The Lithuanians will play the group competition in Cologne, Germany. Other groups will fight in Italy, Sakartvele and the Czech Republic.
