“So far SAM has not used this practice just because we received a very large shipment from AstraZeneca this week, almost 65 thousand doses. Instead of redistributing it, it is to municipalities that do not use, for example, the city of Klaipeda, where many AstraZeneca balances, the same Šalčininkai, Visaginas, were not sent to them at all, and larger amounts were sent to other municipalities, ”Lukas Galkus, Chief Specialist of the Electronic Health System and Information Resources Division, told LRT radio on Friday by SAM.
According to him, no larger shipments will be received from AstraZeneca in the coming weeks, the situation will be monitored and if the lagging municipalities do not use the rest of the vaccines from this manufacturer, then they will be redistributed to other municipalities.
Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys announced plans to redistribute AstraZeneca waste from municipalities that have accumulated significant amounts to others, where vaccination with this drug is gentler, a few weeks ago.
Jurgita Grebenkovienė, chancellor of the Ministry of Health, told BNS this week that it is planned to use the AstraZeneca vaccine, which some municipalities have accumulated more, to vaccinate employees in the education sector.
As a result, according to her, although the ministry has previously decided to redistribute these vaccines from the municipalities that are more difficult to vaccinate, it has not yet been done so that they have a sufficient vaccine balance.
“The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports organizes and plans to carry out a certain campaign to vaccinate education as soon as possible. The goal is not to leave AstraZeneca and leave it in these municipalities to have enough of these vaccines for education, ”Ms Grebenkovienė told BNS.
He also mentioned that there were 19,000 unused last week. The dose of AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine has been restored, but the use of this drug has been restored by allowing a more free transition to lower priority groups.
Minister A. Dulkys admitted that the goal set a month ago of vaccinating the majority of people aged 70 and over during the war was not achieved, and one of the reasons is the crisis in the reliability of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Lithuania and several other European countries had suspended vaccination with AstraZeneca a few days ago due to possible rare side effects, but vaccination was resumed after receiving a safety guarantee from the European Medicines Agency. After the incident, the minister changed the order and allowed the population to choose the vaccines to be vaccinated.
