“We see no reason to continue after July 19,” Javid told lawmakers in support of the government’s continued response to the pandemic following the resignation of his predecessor, Matt Hancock, on Saturday.

Hancock resigned after a security camera record was leaked showing how he was breaking the social distance bets he was asking for by kissing an advisor in his office.

Javid, a former finance and interior minister, is less cautious than his predecessor about the limitations of COVID-19.

“None of the dates we have chosen will be risk-free from COVID-19. Because we know that we cannot take it and eliminate it, we have to learn to live with it,” he said. “For me, July 19 is not just the end. of a stage, but also the beginning of a new and exciting journey for our country. “

The UK was one of the countries hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, recording some 128,000 deaths since the outbreak began.
