Fabio Lombini, 22, and Gioele Rossetti, 23, died in the fall and fire of a plane in which athletes flew. The plane crashed shortly after taking off from the Crazy Fly flight school in Netun, 60 kilometers south of Rome.

“The bereaved Federation expresses its deepest condolences to its family, friends and clubs,” the Italian Swimming Federation (FINA) said in a statement that it believed the plane had been piloted by Rossetti.

He successfully competed in the 200-meter freestyle match. In 2017, F. Lombini participated in the University of Taipei, won silver in the Italian Swimming Championship in the same year, and became a finalist in the European Swimming Championship in the 25-meter pool in Copenhagen.

In Copenhagen, the Italian also competed with Lithuanian swimmer Dan Rapšis.
