“Both workers who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 are currently being treated at home. The epidemiological diagnosis did not reveal any contact with a colleague who was also diagnosed with COVID-19 infection this week. Employees did not have close contact with other colleagues and buyers. We are consulting with the National Center for Public Health and, if necessary, we will take the recommended actions, ”says Ernesta Dapkienė, Director of the Communication and Image Department of the Maxima retail chain.

Workers with the COVID-19 infection were last at work in the middle of this week. For one of them, the last business day was October 20, for the other – October 21. On October 21, the facilities of the Maxima XX store in Joniškis were completely disinfected.

“Currently, our stores meet extremely strict hygiene requirements: carts, baskets and other surfaces are periodically disinfected, and fresh air circulation is increased for store ventilation. Employees are also familiar with additional recommendations to avoid the direct contact and maintain a safe distance. We encourage employees to test for COVID-19 for prevention purposes in all municipalities that only organize such tests, “says E. Dapkienė.

Maxima has special coronavirus insurance for its current and future employees. Employees receive the necessary protective equipment: medical masks or safety shields, gloves, hand sanitizer liquids. Temperature is measured daily for Maxima employees. If employees feel unwell, have symptoms of a cold or the flu, they are asked to stay home.

Starting Monday, October 26, in Joniškis, as in eleven other municipalities in the country, where the quarantine will be introduced, buyers of Maxima stores will have the opportunity to receive a disposable mask for free. Currently, free face masks are distributed in Raseiniai, where local quarantine is introduced. In municipalities where there is quarantine, the flow of buyers to Maxima stores is restricted.

“With the rapid rise of COVID-19 in the country, we understand that the coronavirus can affect everyone. We believe that the preventive protective measures we have taken will help prevent the spread of COVID-19, but it is equally important that each of we feel responsible not only for their own safety, but also for the safety of those around us. Therefore, we invite our customers to be vigilant, to maintain a safe distance in stores, not to forget to wear protective masks, to disinfect hands and use free disposable gloves, which can be found at the entrance ”, says E. Dapkienė, Director of the Department of Communication and Image of Maxima.

A total of 28 Maxima workers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, 20 of whom have fully recovered and returned to work. To date, 793 Maxima employees have been investigated for COVID-19. Currently, 19 employee test responses are still pending.
