Turkey asks the EU to correct a “mistake” in the list of countries that can enter Europe

Brussels on Tuesday compiled a list of 15 countries, including Australia and Morocco, where the coronavirus situation is considered safe enough for its citizens to enter the EU from July 1. However, the United States is not on the list, as are Russia and Turkey.

“Turkey’s absence from this list is disappointing,” said Hami Aksoy, a spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

“We hope this error will be corrected as soon as possible,” Aksoy said, adding that the decision should have been made on the basis of “objective criteria.”

He said Turkey had coped well with the coronavirus outbreak and emphasized the country’s “precautionary measures, work done and success”.

In Turkey, 5,131 coronavirus deaths have been reported since the outbreak and nearly 200,000 cases of infection, according to data released by the Health Ministry on Tuesday.

However, doctors expressed concern that Turkey did not meet all the information standards of the World Health Organization (WHO).
