Fox News received a letter of resignation dated December 1 from the Scott Atlas, which proved insufficiently experienced and qualified in public health or fighting communicable diseases.
The broadcaster also reported that Atlas’ employment contract was due to expire at the end of this week.
“I am writing to resign as special adviser to the president of the United States,” the letter read.
Atlas thanked Trump for the honor of serving on his team and wished “all the best” to the future administration of President-elect Joe Biden.
“I worked diligently with one goal in mind: to save and help Americans during this pandemic,” he emphasized, adding, “always relying on the latest science and evidence, without any consideration or political influence.”
During his tenure, outgoing President Atlas has consistently received conflicting evaluations. He is withdrawing from the country with a rapid increase in cases of coronavirus infection.
Researchers and public health professionals alike expressed serious doubts about the experience and qualifications of this advisor.
In October, he wrote on Twitter: “Do the masks work? “NO”, although much scientific evidence has shown the benefits of these safeguards. Twitter has concealed this message as misleading.
Atlas also gave an interview to Russian government-controlled television RT, during which he tried not to underestimate the rate of spread of the coronavirus in the United States.
In November, he called on people in the state of Michigan to “rebel” against measures to curb COVID-19, including calls to stay home.
On Monday night, the total number of COVID-19 cases detected in the United States rose to 13,522,247, and the number of deaths of people infected with coronavirus rose to 267,844.
