Triumphant Daina Gudzinevičiūtė: “The opponent received two more votes than I predicted” | sports

49:17.

With this result, D. Gudzinevičiūtė defeated Emilis Vaitkaitis, the president of the Lithuanian Swimming Federation, who challenged her in the vote.

After voting at the Litexpo Exhibition Center in Vilnius, LTOK and D. Gudzinevičiūtė, who he still runs, stated that the expanded position will allow him to pursue his dream.

“My old dream of being a hundred Lithuanian athletes at the Olympics, I would like it to come true,” said the LTOK president, who will lead LTOK in 2020-2024.

– Now there are very few athletes who have met the Olympic standard. Why? – D. Gudzinevičiūtė was remembered after the elections won.

– 23 athletes, there were 48 before the Rio Olympics at a similar time. Now the selection is 57%, so it is naive that we get to the number of games in Rio de Janeiro. We will do our best to improve the situation. The reasons are well known: the elimination of the Olympic Sports Center’s medical service function, some large federations are on the mend and small ones are not. Athletes are medically underserved. I think that’s one of the key factors.

– Is there anything you can borrow from the electoral program of E. Vaitkaitis?

– He didn’t say anything new. I don’t want to be particularly critical, but we are doing the same: there is transparency, openness, progress. We just don’t share unreasonable promises, I’m a completely independent candidate, and I don’t see what could be different. We are on our way, but very consistently and with a great team.

– Weren’t the results of the vote surprising?

– The opponent received two more votes than I predicted.

– How will this term differ from the previous two?

– The main difference with the first quarter is that in the first we created a lot, there were no principles of good governance, we organized ourselves differently, we implemented a criteria system, we implemented openness and transparency.

Now the train has arrived. This does not mean that you have to sleep peacefully in the wagon, but rather that you should keep working. And when it comes to the third term, it is easier to stay in touch with other organizations, I am not talking about international connections, which are now different as heaven since I joined the Olympic family.

Relations with the politicians we all talk to. It also produces results in law making. Basically, they expect the same jobs.

– One of the criticisms that you have been made is the unlimited number of terms. Do you promise to change that?

– Definitively the statutes will be changed. I don’t see any problem registering the number of terms.

Since we already had a discussion four years ago, the experts said pros and cons. In federations, for example, there really is no queue to lead them when one person automatically retires; Has no sense. All the more so since there are always choices. Where they are not named but collected, I do not know. Let’s look at the Seimas: there are no term restrictions. I see no problem in talking about this by changing the statutes.

If there is an opinion on the introduction of the number of terms, I am only in favor.

– What else is there to change?

– There are many technical ambiguities in the statutes. These are points poorly expressed by a former attorney.

What does Mr. Pukelis offer? I do not know if it is a matter of debate. Tied to the age of individuals … I don’t know. I think these are non-essential things.

One of the points that must be recorded is the impeccable reputation of the people who are elected to the governing bodies.

– This is your answer to A.Pukelis. How do you rate the personal insults that were not lacking this time?

– I don’t record, I don’t pay attention to personal insults, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I hope the General Assembly is prudent. I do not believe that the election of Mr. Pukel as a candidate for member of the Executive Committee will give us the prestige that has earned us so much.

An impeccable reputation (as I know it as a lawyer) is indefinite and can be damaged by “rumors.” I don’t know what else it may not meet, but it is better to make sure.

– You also invited Naglis Nasvytis, who was among the members of the opponent’s imaginary team, to the vice-presidents.

– We do not divide ourselves into own or strangers. Even eight years ago, when the elections were much fiercer (then D. Gudzinevičiūtė defeated Virgilijus Aleknas), I really hoped that we could unite the sports community. In part, we have succeeded, during our assemblies, in meetings, about five people have always been against everything and against everything.

Today is a different result, but I have no illusions that everyone will always be united. Unfortunately, this is how we were created.
