Some bus companies claim that flights may not be reduced until the New Year due to the need for shipping.

According to the director of the Lithuanian Passenger Transport Association, Gintaras Nakutis, it is not yet possible to guarantee that carriers will maintain all existing bus routes that pass through two or more districts after the new travel restrictions take effect. He predicts that long-distance routes will suffer the most: the number of buses running on them may definitely decrease, as they already suffer losses.

“Carriers are operating at a loss. All long-distance routes are not profitable. If there are passengers, there will definitely be buses, but if there is one more passenger left, they can stop driving,” said the head of the association.

“About ten long distance operators have already given up. In the past, they were not profitable, but during the quarantine (in the spring – BNS) they made the final decisions,” he added.

Among other things, G. Nakutis emphasized that without the permission of the Transportation Security Administration, no intercity trip can be closed temporarily or permanently.

According to G.Nakutis, so far carriers are not obliged to explain where passengers are going and check whether they have the right to travel.

“If the police verified, the passenger would be disembarked and returned,” said the head of the association.

G.Nakutis reported that last weekend there were twice as many passengers as two weeks ago.

There will be shipments, routes will not be closed

Justin Vedluga, Kautra’s marketing manager, promises changes to travel schedules, but there is no final decision on when to expect them.

Mr. Vedluga says that the routes will also be determined by the number of packages; if there are more of them than passengers, the buses will continue to run.

“Surely there will be some changes, the number of flights in certain directions will probably decrease, only if we cannot say from Wednesday or later. We review flows and models of situations. However, the buses will not stop, because we have to maintain the network transportation and the parcel service, which is very important before the holidays ”, said BNS J. Vedluga.

He stressed that so far the number of shipments will definitely “partially determine” long-distance routes, from one country to another, between cities.

“Shipping is like a side business. Now comes the peak of shipments and we will take into account not only the movement of people, but also shipments. We will allow buses if there are many packages but fewer people. The number of seats on the bus may be reduced if there is a lot of luggage. Maybe the size of the bus will be changed, the trip will not be canceled, “said a representative of” Kautra. “

Among other things, it advises those who intend to travel before coming to the station to check if the bus they plan to travel will actually work.

Mr. Vedluga emphasized that the temperature for the passengers would not be controlled. According to him, there is no information about Kautra drivers with coronavirus.

Train travel will decrease

Rūta Atroškaitė, representative of Lietuvos Geležinkeliai in the media, informed BNS that residents could continue to travel by trains, only less frequently.

“It is still necessary to travel between municipalities. We will try to maintain that long distance connection so that people can go to work, to doctors. There will be some changes only in train travel. We will probably optimize. Travel is likely to decrease. It will be possible. go from point A to point B, for example, not four times a day, but only two or three times, ”R. Atroškaitė told BNS.

According to her, the most likely is that the changes from next week will be announced in advance.

R. Atroškaitė recalled that during the spring quarantine the flows of passengers traveling by train had been reduced by 80 percent.

Ferry trips from Old Ferry to Smiltyne stop
