tragedy at Šiauliai Hospital there are many researchers, and the benefits are few

The eyes of the Šiauliai doctors lit up last Thursday, when the visiting president, Gitanas Nausėda, called for more active action, as he heard from employees that the problems had not disappeared.

After a long palpitation, only the director of the Republican Šiauliai hospital, Remigijus Mažeika, has been removed from work.

The minister did this just before G. Nausėda’s planned visit, and lower-ranking leaders appointed by the doctors themselves still work as oppressors of 36-year-old L. Šilinskytė.

Nobody wants to make a mistake

Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys, who visited RŠL on Monday, admitted that he had heard the laments of doctors for having seen “what is happening to the doctor with light memory”, but did nothing to help her.

The Minister spoke succinctly about the situation in the hospital and possible rapid changes, the removal of other managers: “The removal of the director of an institution is only a fraction of what we can contribute to an objective investigation. This trip can lead to several solutions: the State Labor Inspectorate, the Attorney General’s Office, an investigation commission that I have formed and a team to initiate change will soon arrive ”.

Vilnius doctor Česlova Špūrienė, who was appointed to direct temporarily, said no more.

She testified that she did not count work hours, but did not want to name specific actions. The acting manager admitted that she did not know that a senior official in the institution’s administration had been convicted in a corruption case.

Č.Špūrienė had called an employee meeting last Friday.

True, only heads of various levels were invited: department heads, nursing heads.

There are 3 investigations in the Prosecutor’s Office

The first change took place a week ago, when the minister dismissed R. Mažeikas, director of the RŠL, on Tuesday.

A few days later, it was reported that the prosecution had opened an investigation for falsification of documents and suicide. The Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office took over the pre-trial investigation into the hands of Šiauliai residents, following the instructions of Attorney General Nida Grunskienė, so that there were no doubts about possible biases.

Officials from the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office are also continuing a separate investigation, which is clarifying the circumstances of the doctor’s death. Another pre-trial investigation is underway regarding the statement of a millionaire from Šiauliai treated by RŠL.

According to the businessman, L.Šilinskytė’s professionalism pulled him from death, because other doctors did not want to hear anything: he kept him tied up in a resuscitation room, allowed sedatives and was going to take him to a psychiatric clinic.

A Šiauliai man who had escaped from the hospital wrote a statement saying that he had a serious health problem.

Fight – for burning candles

Rebel RŠL doctors anonymously report that colleagues fired from the hospital are being squeezed with money. A peace treaty is signed with them that obliges them not to talk about the problems encountered at work, scandalous facts. The existence of such agreements was also confirmed by RŠL representatives.

The Šiauliai doctors are still angry that the administration of the institution did not even allow the late L.Šilinskytė to be honored; she forbade putting a photo, an obituary, to light candles in the hospital.

On the day of the funeral, a sizable squad of doctors, with tears in the eyes of the townspeople, brought candles and placed them at the entrance of the main building, and lined up in front of the administration windows as a silent reproach.

The silent protest continues: the protesting doctors still carry candles, but they quickly leave. Also, a surveillance camera is installed at that location. Doctors fear the goal is to find people who dare to protest.

Representatives of the RŠL administration claimed that the video camera appeared after the vandal attack: the inscription “Katorga” appeared on the hospital building.
