It should be noted that the system of the Olympic basketball tournament has been modified compared to previous years. If previously teams were divided into six groups of two, at the Tokyo Olympics, teams are divided into four groups of three.

From each group, the top two teams will advance to the playoffs: the quarterfinals, and two of the top three third-ranked teams in the group will also advance to this stage.

From that moment on, the competition will take place in the usual “one minus” system. The teams that win the quarterfinals will advance to the semifinals, the semifinals to the final, and the team that wins the finals will win gold medals.

Compared to previous Olympic tournaments, the champion team will have to play 6 games instead of 8 (3 in the group and 3 in the playoffs). So far, teams have played 5 matches in the Olympic pool alone.

The women’s basketball tournament will be organized according to the same principle.

Groups of the Women’s Olympic Tournament:

Group A: Korea, Serbia, Canada, Spain.

B Group: Nigeria, Japan, France, United States.

Group C: Australia, Purto Rico China, Belgium.
