Those who want to fix their teeth hurried: the queues were extended after the New Year

The portal tv3.lt asked about the patient flows currently faced by dentists in the Vilnius city municipality. It turns out that the situation is no better than during the quarantine, when it was really difficult to reach the specialists.

The queues extend into next year

Vytautė Pečiulienė, director of the Žalgiris Clinic at Vilnius University Hospital, notices that the institution receives many patients every day and sees an influx of them.

“We are seeing an influx of patients. It was very visible in September and is currently around 10 percent. The decrease is. Perhaps the people themselves are separated, not coming. Perhaps out of fear of the current situation. We cannot identify this.

But anyway, for now, we provide all scheduled services at the same rate as the current environment, as it is now, compared to September or October last year. The scale of services has not decreased at all, ”said V. Pečiulienė on tv3.lt.

The director of the institution considers that the influx of patients may have been caused by the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19 in the country. People are simply in a rush to get services before it’s too late.

“I think it was because of the desire to grow up in September to end what I did not go through during the quarantine, after the quarantine. Because the renewal of services after the quarantine was gradual. People, fearing autumn and winter, if sometimes that wave increased, which we now see clearly, apparently just wanted to receive faster treatment services, ”said V. Pečiulienė.

And it seems that patients in severe pain in public institutions will not receive help even with their own money, because the queue of applicants for help is lining up next year.

“Frankly, we are really lining up after the New Year, we are full. Of course, we are trying to adjust those lines. In that sense, if we know what separates or makes a person sick, then we call people before. everyone’s resources are limited. As far as possible, we provide these services, “said V. Pečiulienė.

Priority: registered patients

Kęstutis Štaras, director of the Center’s polyclinic, also admits it, admitting that there is practically no place for patients not registered at the polyclinic to have their teeth repaired.

“First of all, we must provide services to our patients and policyholders,” said K. Štaras on tv3.lt.

According to him, the Center’s polyclinic currently provides cash assistance to people who are not registered with the institution on very rare occasions, except of course for emergency assistance, which is free.

“Very rarely, isolated cases, because there are very large queues of people covered by compulsory health insurance. But we also provide the necessary assistance during the quarantine, and we are providing it now, “added K. Štaras.

The head of the polyclinic affirms that the flow of patients has also increased due to the fact that health institutions must comply with the highest hygiene requirements.

“Disinfection is necessary, the facilities must be ventilated. The performance of patients has deteriorated a lot, this is due to many patients. But we also have to protect our employees, because if they are not there it will be even worse, “said K. Staras.

Not only does Covid-19 put its foot on the ground

And here at the Šeškinė polyclinic, although after quarantine and renewed dental services, there were still fewer places than before.

“We continue to renew the Department of Dentistry, it is a European project and does not depend on Covid-19. With the repairs we are almost done and we plan to finish in late November or early December.

But, of course, uninterrupted services. Until Covid-19, we had 14 dental beds, so now we have eight last-stand chairs, ”said Daiva Kanopienė, director of the Šeškinė polyclinic.

However, even after the resumption of services, the situation at the polyclinic is tense: there is not enough space there for everyone who wants to repair their teeth. Currently, the polyclinic also has a long queue of registered patients, but several patients also receive the necessary care on a daily basis.

“At Covid-19, we only provide services indirectly. For direct renewals, we have a clear priority for our own registered patients. Naturally, for repairs and all, we have minimized [mokamas paslaugas]. But we also provide payment services. But it is natural that registered patients have a right of priority, ”said D. Kanopienė.

“Nurses advise all calls made to a dental service to clarify who needs that service most to minimize queues. We are doing our best ”, added the head of the polyclinic.

The portal tv3.lt recalls that from next week the quarantine will be introduced in 12 Lithuanian municipalities for two weeks.
