The capital will be open to events such as the Presidential Patio, St. Church of the Virgin Mary Consoler, family space – Bernardo Garden.

State-of-the-art perimeters

When asked why such diverse objects were chosen, the director of the festival “Night of culture 2020” Gintarė Šiaulyt that said that this is the main message: they are trying to find and discover different urban spaces. Therefore, events will not necessarily take place where last year – the festival tends to surprise in new formats.

“The traditional cultural night events have been preserved during the program. For the eighth consecutive year, the mini cultural festival” Sounding the Palace of the Rulers “has been organized in the main courtyard of the Palace of the Rulers,” he said.

A completely new space of the festival – “Perimeter”, in Rūdininkai square, which marks the memory of the Vilnius ghetto. “It will feature avant-garde figures from Lithuanian art who seek new and progressive creative forms. In the future, these performances may also become a tradition of the ‘Night of culture’, “said G. Šiaulytė.

It is promised that on the perimeter it will be possible to hear representatives of electronic and avant-garde music, such as Gintautas Gascevičius, Eglė Kančiauskaitė and Patris Židelevičius, watch a theatrical dance performance of the Šeiko Dance Theater together with the Maciej Kuźmiński Company, Lithuanian musical instruments, instruments Lithuanian musicals. and the contemporary music performers from the theater academy (LMTA) will surprise with improvisations, and the evening will end with the well-known “Sheep got waxed” and the jazz distortions “Juzt”.

Each year, the organizers seek and negotiate with the owners and institutions of various locations for special spaces that correspond to the idea of the event being organized.

Managed to get on the train

The organizers of the “Night of Culture” continued to find ways to interest Vilnius nightclubs. However, this year, due to the global pandemic, we have to consider not only fun, but also another important thing: keeping events safe, not too many people.

“The format of the festival itself is quite favorable to the current situation, since the places where the events are organized are far from each other. Therefore, the flow of people will not be great, “explained G. Šiaulytė.

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis announced Monday that it will start on October 1. Mass events such as city or harvest festivals will no longer be allowed. Did the Night of Culture manage to “get on the train”?

“We also doubt the current date; after all, the requirements started to change already in August. We had a long discussion about what to do with the festival. In the end, we decided to organize ourselves, meet all the requirements, and we worked hard on that. The team of volunteers for the event is huge: about 100 people. We try to look at everything in a positive way, not run out of events, “said the interlocutor.

So far, G. Šiaulytė did not dare to guess how many viewers will not escape the threat of the coronavirus: “It is difficult to assess, but there is less activity on social networks. Perhaps fewer people will gather than usual. But without mentioning COVID-19, it is difficult to attract the viewer. We have a wide range of events. We joke that it is similar to going to the store to buy milk, there are different types. It is difficult to choose something when there is something, ”commented the festival director.

The real truth. Even after preparing for the “Night of Culture”, you will have to choose: the announced program – 88 events, various art projects – performances, concerts, exhibitions, performances.

The eight-hour marathon of events includes installations, exhibits and musical experiments.

When asked to name events suitable for a wide audience, G. Šiaulytė highlighted the installation “Carpet” by Mantas Bartkus, which will be displayed on the façade of the Sports Palace (Rinktinės St. 1), from 20:00 to 2: 00 hours. of the night.

The interlocutor also mentioned the Užupis Magic Forest Art Incubator (Užupio Street 2A and Krivių Street 12). In it, viewers will be greeted by contemporary art exhibitions, mysterious installations on the Vilnelė River, and musical experiments.

According to G. Šiaulytė, among the most visual and largest events, there is a vertical dance show “Developer Code”. It will be screened for two days on the facade of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater (LNOBT).

Vertical dance is a type of art that combines elements of modern circus, aerial acrobatics and classical dance in an unusual space: on the wall. It will be demonstrated by the acrobats and dancers Inga Briazkalovaitė, Mickeala Karlsson and Dimitre Simonov.

Furthermore, according to G. Šiaulytė, it is important to mention that this year the festival dedicated a separate part of the program to the commemoration of Vilnius Gaon.

The Night of Culture festival will last eight hours. As G. Šiaulytė compared, it is like a marathon of events. However, the festival does not break records, it has been going on for a full ten hours. “We noticed that at 2 in the afternoon the audience continues to attend the events, but then the city empties,” he explained.

When asked how long it would take to attend events during this time, the interviewee smiled and said that it was impossible to cover everyone physically, even if they wanted to. However, the organizers have conducted tests: a person can attend 6-7 events on average. “There would be no breaks,” he laughed.
However, a good dose of culture can be obtained. “Really,” he said at the end of the conversation, adding that the organizers were asking the audience to be aware. Due to the current situation in the country and in the world, to take care of your safety and that of others.
