“The idea of the carnival came up very spontaneously. The Venice Carnival stuck with us as an extremely vivid image of Italy, so we want to bring that sparkle to Vilnius so that culture, theater and music can be revived in the street space. That this summer, especially after the shocks that took place in the spring, would be active, “says Kotryna Žilinskaitė, director of the Užiateka arts organization, which will create the Venice Carnival in Užupis.
The thunderous Italian Venice Carnival will invite visitors to Užupis on Saturday night, according to a press release. On that day, passersby will be entertained by mysterious characters in bright costumes and traditional Venetian masks, modern circus and La Commedia dell’Arte, and live chamber music concerts in the streets of Užupis.
“It will be an event full of costumes, bright clothing, art and music,” says K. Žilinskaitė.
There will be no shortage of other entertainment
All interested visitors will have the opportunity to create their own Venetian carnival mask and join in the fun. Later that Saturday night, the Užupio pizzeria restaurant will invite you to try real Italian pizza and dance to the starry sky at the Musica di carnevale per amici e amore with Italian jazz and funk music.
The celebration will take place not only in Užupis: there will be seven cultural, entertainment and event spaces in the city, restaurants will invite you to enjoy traditional Italian dishes, cozy concerts, exhibitions and non-traditional excursions and popular street events : Street Music Day and Diner in Blanc. Travel around the world in Vilnius will continue throughout the summer.
The Vilnius Holiday Campaign, announced by the Vilnius City Municipality and the Vilnius Go Vilnius Business and Tourism Agency, invites Lithuanians to travel the world for seven weekends. Every second summer weekend, starting June 5, Vilnius will become a different country. The culture of an exotic city vacation will be created by the cultures of seven countries that are very popular with travelers, starting with Italy, then India, the United States, France, Spain, Germany, and Japan.
