“The novelty of this year’s vocational training is also catching the attention of the participants: the opportunity for students from vocational schools to study their profession by combining their studies in two schools: general education and vocational training,” says Algirdas Monkevičius, Minister of Education, Science and Sports.

This year, admission to vocational training institutions is open not only to those who wish to obtain a grade according to the entire vocational training program, but also to students of gymnasiums of grades I – IV and grades 9–10 of schools general education students who wish to study according to separate vocational training modules. To date, 97 of those requests have been received.

According to the Ministry, modular vocational training programs, which consist of separate modules, allow the student to acquire the desired qualification not only by constantly studying throughout the program, but also taking individual modules, choosing the most acceptable form and pace of learning .

Students in general education schools who decide to choose modular vocational training will study somewhat differently than students in vocational schools. They may choose part of the program, i. that is, a separate module and learn from it. By choosing a module at a vocational school, a gym student may have three to six lessons, and the study will last from one to two years.

Admission to vocational training institutions is made by the Lithuanian Association of Higher Education Institutions for the General Admission Organization (LAMA BPO). Applications for admission to the main summer stage can be submitted by participants until August 7, and by graduates this year until August 12. The additional reception will take place from August 15 to 26.

In total, it is planned to admit 20 thousand people to vocational training institutions in 2020. 610 new students.

Given the growing need for professionals, more places are being allocated this year for the engineering, healthcare and social work industries, as well as for driver training.

The largest number of locations, 4,935, will go to manufacturing, wholesale and retail trade, motor vehicle and motorcycle repair, 3,540, transportation and storage, 2,790, construction, 2,025, health care and social work, 1,110.

Last year, more than 19.4 thousand people were admitted to vocational training institutions. Students, that is, 2.2 thousand, or 13 percent, more than in 2018. The largest number of places was for the engineering and engineering professions, private services, architecture and construction.
