“We have been operating the bus on the suburban routes of the Kaunas district for some time, because we want to know all the possibilities of the bus. So we have to test it also in urban conditions. The city of Alytus is perfect for that. We will also introduce passengers to the transport of the near future ”, said Linas Skardžiukas, General Manager of Kautra.

According to company representatives, electric vehicles already in Lithuania and around the world already occupy a significant part of the private car market segment, and with more and more manufacturers adapting innovations to public transport solutions, the new generation of electric buses will become more ecological and economical replacement for current vehicles, gasoline, diesel or hybrid engines.

It will be tested in a week.

Alytus residents will be able to test drive the electric bus from January 25-29. Every day, this eco-friendly vehicle will travel at least 140 km in Alytus.

“The bus will temporarily replace conventional vehicles on routes 1 and 6. Passengers will have the same connection as today, only the vehicle will change. Like all buses in Alytus, this will be driven by a local Alytus driver.” said Gražina Čepukaitienė, director of the Alytus branch of Kautra.

Electric bus only

The Yutong bus manufacturer’s vehicle has an ergonomic workplace for drivers, 4 indoor and 1 outdoor video cameras for passenger safety, and a high-quality air conditioning system for efficient cooling and heating of the cabin. The low-floor electric bus is extremely efficient: the powerful 423 kWh battery in the bus, according to the manufacturer, allows driving up to 400 km on a single charge. The 12 m extra spacious cabin bus has capacity for a total of 82 passengers, there are 25 seats and 54 standing places, 2 places for people with mobility problems.

Company representatives shared that when testing the bus, attention will be paid to how its battery responds to temperature changes typical of the Lithuanian climate, the distance traveled in hot weather, as well as the pressure of a greater cold. Important nuances and vehicle charging time. The Yutong U12 electric bus is tested with a charging station, which fully charges the bus in 3.5 hours, so up to 3 electric buses can be prepared for one day of operation at one stop per night.

“The bus will carry passengers in Alytus during the day and return to the charging station in Kaunas at night, so the test will be carried out under even more diverse conditions,” said G.Čepukaitienė, the company’s Alytus director branch.
