Today, Margarita, the daughter of A. Speičytė Radzevičienė, is 12 years old. She came into the world three months ahead of schedule.

Asta says the doctor provided the information not so directly, very kind and calm, but that such an unexpected message still took the foundations from under his feet.
“Then everything is tears, panic and shock. That feeling of not feeling the body, that something is happening, but not about me.

Today, the mother of two admits that while it sounds amazing now, she didn’t even know at the time that the children were born prematurely. Simply, she says, I did not read those topics and there was not as much information on such cases.
“I saw my son for the first time in about 4-5 days before I recovered. When we went to resuscitation, that image was like a spaceship: the devices beep, the monitors. I see my son is so big, so big in a glass incubator, and he is so small, so small, so small. That skin is even transparent, the blood vessels can be seen as spongy ”, recalls AA Speičytė Radzevičienė his sensitive experiences.

The interlocutor’s daughter, Margarita, was even a month and a half in resuscitation. During this time, Asta lived at home and every morning, barely awake, she would call the hospital and then rush to bring her daughter milk.
Every time he took the phone in his hand, he opened it, he was overwhelmed with fear, because the worst message could ring on the other end of the phone.
“Once I called and said: it was a very difficult night, I did not breathe, the monitors jumped, all the sensors. It says: nothing good. That “no good” is probably the scariest thing my mother can hear, “says A. Speičytė Radzevičienė.

Asta remembers that this time he rushed to the hospital by trolley because the man had gone to work. The woman admits that the half-hour drive has turned into an eternity. It seemed to say that I was going crazy.
“Oh God, the trip was like this ups and downs, and the rise and fall of emotions, because nobody promises you anything good. Maybe there were three blood transfusions, heart surgery, when a child weighed about 800 grams because, as you know, one gram still drops when a child is born. She, of course, was not breathing, could not move, turn around and not even cry. She had a mustache, a breathing apparatus like that, and the apparatus just held her up. The newborn also had more health problems: he had cysts accumulated on his head, he had to operate for a hernia. Such a bouquet of diagnostics, says a typical woman of an ordinary early age.
Later, A. Speičytė Radzevičienė lived with his daughter Margarita in the hospital for about another month and a half.
“We spent about 107 days in the hospital, before she was born, those three months,” said the interlocutor.

The family of the house returned when the newborn weighed about two kilograms. However, Asta says, even after successfully overcoming a very difficult road, a single thought did not give him peace of mind: how to help those scared and confused parents facing the same problems.
“When we returned, it was a fact that all those values had been completely reversed. Yes, I worked in tourism for 13 years, for a long time, and I lived with completely different problems, completely different plans. And here everything is from the clear sky. But I am grateful that it showed the direction of my life. I think those signs really exist and they show us the direction, we just have to see them, ”says A. Speičytė Radzevičienė.

Later, with the emergence of two like-minded people, as well as mothers of early mothers, she formed an association and started a support project.
“It was thanks to the initial support project, with the funds raised by the benefactors, that we made a book on families for the first time. Then we buy innovative devices for hospitals that are designed to breathe, that is, for the little ones ”, names the interlocutor to the work carried out.

The organization has also managed to provide boots for the first men, which are still being delivered to the largest hospitals in the country. They contain the necessary tools: diapers, clothing, hygiene items for mothers, a notebook that records every gram a child eats.
The interviewee is surprised that the state does not provide such measures to families; after all, the arrival of these children is often very unexpected.
“I came from work in a suit. I have nothing. He put on that kind of white coat and … into the operating room. Everything. I have nothing. I no longer speak at home, cribs, clothes, nobody is ready ”, says the interlocutor of the problems faced by the parents of their ancestors.

Now parents of premature babies can also go to the help line created by the association. Asta is pleased that psychologist consultations for these families are available at the largest hospitals in the country.
“It is very important to help families, even mothers, of course. This is the whole family. Because the child is not in the hospital, it is a family, it is a mother and a father.
This makes it important for society to support all children. Every child is important, whether they were born with a disability, were born prematurely, or were born normally. That beginning of life is very, very important ”, he concludes.
