June Raine, director of the Agency for the Supervision of Medicines and Health Products (MHRA), reported the two cases Wednesday in a parliamentary committee.

The UK on Tuesday began vaccinating the elderly and medical staff with a vaccine developed by US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech. This is the world’s first vaccination campaign against COVID-19.

“We are explaining two cases of allergic reactions,” Raine said. “Very large clinical trials have not shown this.”

“However, if now that we have this experience in vulnerable groups that have been selected for vaccination first, we need to strengthen our recommendations, we will immediately strengthen them,” he said.

Ms. Raine spoke in a general discussion about how her agency will continue to monitor people who have been vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, which was allowed to distribute last week.
