Members of the Paupiai community, who were awaiting the meeting of the Road Safety Commission, were disappointed: People who were unable to put their cars in the yard did not receive a permit to park on the street.

Sigita Kurmelienė, the president representing the interests of the multi-apartment homeowners association “Paupiai”, addressed members of the Traffic Safety Commission meeting remotely on Wednesday.

“We have a big problem: our cars do not fit in the parking lot. There are 60 apartments in the house and only 15 cars can be parked next to the house. Traffic signs now prohibit parking cars on Jaunystės street. And they allow it to be done. after business hours and on weekends? “- Asked a woman on behalf of the neighbors.

Reconstruction of the courtyards is not planned here in the near future, so it will be several years before the parking area increases.

The chief of the traffic police, Mindaugas Džermeika, supported the residents’ proposal, but remained on the side of the minority.

Given the problem, traffic experts said that if one side of the wide street was occupied by the cars themselves, two buses would no longer pass it.

The city’s public transport runs along Jaunystės Street.

With the installation of the intersection with Liepų Street, a regulated traffic light, the traffic on the main street of Paupių kvartalo will be even more intense.

Discussing this issue, the director of administration of the Klaipėda city municipality, Gintaras Neniškis, recalled the ideas of sustainable mobility, called for the use of alternative means of transport and spoke about the fact that when buying a house, it is worth it. consider parking a car safely. .

During the discussion, it was said that there are many more hotspots in Klaipeda in terms of parking, he mentioned Rumpiškės, Kooperacijos and several similar streets.

Finally, it was recalled that the management of the yard is carried out mainly when the residents themselves contribute money to these projects.

“Of course, the situation is not ideal, but we will not support the residents’ proposal yet. We will instruct the Municipal Transportation Department to find other ways to solve the problem,” summarized G. Neniškis.

Likewise, a request from a person to install a “Zona Residencial” road sign near the house on Calle Sausio 15-osios 12 was rejected.

The author of this request did not participate in the discussion and did not substantiate the request in more detail. It was noted that the letter was signed by one person, so it is unclear what the opinion of other residents of the same house is on this issue.

It was decided to reject the request of this person and not to consider the requests of individuals in future meetings of the Road Safety Commission.
