This year, a real forest-scented spruce is once again decorated in Klaipeda. It was donated to the city by the Jankauskai family, who for 30 years watched the Christmas tree grow under their windows. Having grown to the size of a child, he grew up and began to block the sun from his home.

It is true that due to the quarantine, the holidays themselves moved to computer screens. Klaipėda residents are invited to watch the firing of the fir online and rejoice in the looming green scar the next day, when there will be fewer people.

And although some Klaipėda residents, families with children and wanted to see the Christmas tree live first, they watched and kept their distance, and there were no large crowds here: Klaipėda residents heard an invitation not to meet, and maybe the weather Windy put off some.

More police officers also patrol the city on the night of the lighting. They guard the plaza, they monitor the situation, they do not make sure that they do not group together to maintain safe distances.

Next to the Christmas tree in the Plaza del Teatro, the lighting installation “Estrella del Norte” will accompany the entire Christmas period until the Feast of the Magi. The installation by Arvydas Buinauskas, one of the most famous Lithuanian light artists, reflects the structure of the compass and indicates the four main directions of the world.

To admire:

In the center of the star, the author installed powerful reflectors, the beam of which will be visible even from 20 kilometers away. The installation will run continuously to avoid crowds.

During the virtual event, a half-hour concert “Christmas is coming to Klaipeda”, connecting four capitals: Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, Kaunas, the temporary capital, Neringa, the future capital of Lithuanian culture and Klaipeda, the future European capital of youth.

Greetings from Vilnius are sent by “Antique Kaspirovskis Teeth”, Kaunas – Linas Adomaitis, Neringa – Šeiko Dance Theater, and Klaipėda is heard by Monika Liu.
