In the fifth and decisive match of the final series, Kaunas Hockey and Hockey Punks fought for the title of champions until the last moment of the match, but in the end, Kaunas danced a joyful dance – the Kaunas Hockey hockey players celebrated their victory 2: 1 in a dramatic match. This triumph allowed the Kaunas club to win the first gold medals in their club’s history.

The first dangerous occasion arose in the goal of Hockey Punks, when after Eduard Chekmaryov’s blocked shot, the hockey almost collided with the Vilnius goal of the representatives of the capital. Roman Rešetnikov had a chance in his zone shortly after his opponents’ mistake, but this Kaunas Hockey striker failed to excel either.

Finally, Kaunas residents who settled in the opponents’ zone opened their goal tally when E. Čekmaryovas took advantage of the confusion in the guest goal (07:02, manager Kirill Danilenka, Vytautas Jagelavičius). Even after the well-deserved goal, Kaunas Hockey did not slow down and kept organizing attack after attack, and punk goalkeeper Simas Baltrūnas had to save his team more than once from the second goal.

After a very difficult start, Hockey Punks managed to organize several longer attacks on the opponents’ goal only at the end of the quarter, but they did not cause any major problems for Artūras Pavliukovas. Meanwhile, Kaunas Hockey responded with several dangerous counterattacks, in which Kaunas residents lacked precision.

The Hockey Punks started the second half more actively, forcing their opponents to break the rules for the first time in the game. During the quantitative advantage, Vilnius residents managed to establish themselves on the side of Kaunas square, and during the long attack, A. Pavliukovas did not make a mistake when Pavilas Verenis had the opportunity to score close (24:56, res. Aivaras Bendžius , Ilja Želtakovas).

In the middle of the match, Kaunas Hockey twice forced opponents to break the rules, but on the first occasion Kaunas players wasted violating the composition rule, and then failed to excel during the next majority.

The third part started with a dangerous attack by the Hockey Punks, in which Aivaras Bendžius, who was on top, failed to outsmart the opponents’ goalkeeper in two attempts. Kaunas Hockey responded with his dangerous attack, during which Egidijus Binkulis, who headed against the goalkeeper, left S. Baltrūnas no hope with a technical action (44:33, res. Forward Vladislavas Šiškovas).

Towards the end of the match, the punk had a second chance for their majority, but unlike the first quantitative advantage, this time the guests failed to score. The defended team of Kaunas organized their dangerous attack, but this time E. Binkulis did not take the opportunity.

With the relentless end of the game, the Hockey Punks coach tried to save by switching the goalkeeper to the sixth player on the field, and the rebounding Kaunas Hockey team could not take advantage of it: their launch hit the crossbar. This allowed punk to extend their attempts to equalize the result, but the Kaunas team was right and enjoyed gold medals after the match.

E. Čekmaryov was recognized as the most useful player in the final series and also received a special personal award in addition to gold medals.

Kaunas Hockey strategist Petras Nausėda, who won gold at the head coach position in his debut season, was happy with the gold won and admitted that before this match he felt the greatest excitement throughout his hockey career.

“It really means a lot to us: we were the best last year, but we didn’t get medals due to the pandemic, and this year was also a difficult year, so I’m proud that in a short time we created one of the best hockey clubs in the world. country and brought the championship to the city. It is a reward for hard and patient work.

Today I have been very excited since the morning; It was the biggest thrill of my career, I didn’t even feel that much thrill while playing. It seems that you know everything and everything will be fine, but there was excitement and a lot of reluctance to pass it on to your team. That’s why we’ve been doing everything with a lot of emphasis since training yesterday. “

Kaunas Hockey captain Vytautas Jagelavičius was happy with the first gold in the Kaunas club ranks after the match and admitted that a longer bout of opponents in the semi-final series could have played a role in the series.

“We have been fighting for this for four years, so it feels great to finally get to first place. Very good emotions, especially seeing those players that we started training with here, and now we have brought the gold to Kaunas.

I think the rivals felt a bit tired and they still had a very long semi-final series and now we have a long series again in the final. We were able to change goalkeepers after three games, and his goalkeeper had to put up with the whole game, and although he did very well, I think he finally felt tired ”.

Silver-winning Hockey Punks coach Mindaugas Kieras admitted after the game that the gold was caused by one of his students’ mistakes, but said he has no regrets about the end of such a series.

“I am very happy that our team grew with each game. The first meeting with Kaunas was very difficult and we were wondering if we could compete with our competitors. However, we played better and better in each game and in my opinion we had to pick up. the gold in the fourth game in Vilnius, we started badly, which cost us the victory.

In this match we fought to the end and I dreamed of a similar duel in which we would not be inferior to our rivals. They took one more opportunity than we did, and we made the mistake ourselves, which cost us gold. Still, I don’t regret it, it was a great final and a great fight. “
