The crime is extremely brutal and arrogant, and the thieves prepared for it in advance, unafraid of breaking into the family home in the middle of the day. These details about the incident in Lazdijai were made clear during a press conference held Thursday at the Alytus County Police Chief’s Commissariat. Alvydas Jurgelevičius, the Alytus police chief, revealed that all the suspects have already been detained and provided other shocking details.
Three suspects were arrested Tuesday. A 28-year-old man was arrested in Vilnius County in the morning. He is well known to the police, previously convicted of theft, fraud, public order crimes.
Another suspect was arrested the same day, around 1 pm, in Lazdijai County. In the evening, a third suspect was captured in the Varėna district. Both are also known to the police, convicted of health disorders, drug possession, violations of public order.
Police also arrested a fourth suspect, in his twenties, who had not yet reached the horizons of law enforcement on Wednesday.
Although the suspects were detained in different locations, they all came from Vilnius County. Three suspects arrested on Tuesday are already in custody for three months. The 20-year-old, who was arrested on Wednesday, will be placed in preventive detention on Thursday.
Among those arrested are both the organizer and the perpetrators of the crime.
Alytus County LSC chief A. Jurgelevičius stated that such crime, when criminals broke into a house and entered a house, was the first in its practice. The police chief described the crime as cruel and arrogant.
It turned out that the suspects scrupulously prepared for him in advance, took care of the means of tying up people, a compressed air pistol. There is no doubt that a flammable liquid has been prepared in advance for human consumption.
The fact that the suspects left the minibus nearby indicates that something was blocking them and that they had to act unexpectedly. The minibus found was rented, with the numbers stolen.
AlytusPlius.lt recalls that on Monday, around 1 in the afternoon, three masked persons broke into a house in Lazdijai, Kauno street, which tied up a 36-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter. When he returned home, the 42-year-old was also tied up, beaten and set on fire.
The incident was reported to the police by outsiders who noticed a fire in the house. The woman herself had also run into the street to ask for help.
The victim’s condition is currently very serious, so the police officers did not have the opportunity to speak with him. According to A. Jurgelevičius, the safety of the woman and her daughter is taken care of, the criminals did not injure them, but they suffered a lot of stress.
The Lazdijai incident has led to the opening of a pre-trial investigation into a serious health condition and theft.
It is not yet known if the suspects confessed and what the motive for the crime could be. The victim is also known to law enforcement: she has been convicted three times for disposing of excise goods.
During the arrest of the suspects, large police forces were launched, Vilnius officers and colleagues from Poland also worked, as well as border guards.
