“It is my duty as prime minister to make tough decisions and do whatever it takes to protect the people of this country,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote on Twitter Saturday night. Until recently, he rejected demands from academics and opposition for stricter measures during the holidays. But now millions of people will still be forced to celebrate alone. “We are sacrificing the opportunity to meet our loved ones this Christmas for a better chance to protect their lives and see them next Christmas,” Johnson said.
He warned that the new VUI2020 / 12/01 virus strain is spreading rapidly. This mutation is said to be as high as 70%. more contagious than the hitherto known form of the virus. Many clinics in the South East of England are practically congested, with unnecessary operations delayed in many places. At the same time, the prime minister stressed that there is no evidence that the vaccine against the new variant of the coronavirus is less effective or that the course of the disease is more severe and there are more deaths.
To protect the population, social life is hampered in many parts of the country. London and other regions in southeast England are at the highest risk of coronavirus risk. Here, people can leave home only for the necessary reasons: go to the doctor or work. All unnecessary stores, sports clubs, hair salons, cinemas and beauty salons are closed.
Great Britain is one of the countries in Europe most affected by the pandemic. A vaccination campaign was launched here 10 days ago, and so far some 350,000 people have been vaccinated with Biontech and Pfizer.
