The spells did not hurt: the Lithuanian flag bearer discovered his first rival on the Olympic mat

The draw for the women’s judo competition on Thursday resulted in the peer challenge of 29-year-old Kaunas woman Ivana Maranič in the over 78 kg weight category in the 16th final.

The rival, who cannot boast of significant victories, is ranked 35th in the IJF world heavyweight rankings, one of the lowest among the 27 participants of the Olympic Games. S. Jablonskytė is classified four steps above.

It is true that after overcoming the first barrier, a much more difficult nut would continue: sixth-ranked French Romane Dicko, who became European champion for the second time last year, took sixth place in the rankings.

Losing the last hope of winning a medal would turn into a consolation competition.

The Olympic debut of S. Jablonskytė, who will carry the Lithuanian flag alongside swimmer Giedrius Titenis on Friday at the opening ceremony of the Games, will take place on July 30 in the homeland of judo.

Furthermore, Lithuania will be represented in Tokyo in duels only by the Greco-Roman wrestler Mantas Knystautas, who will also make his debut at the Olympics. The first fight of a 27-year-old Klaipeda resident in the weight category up to 130 kg is waiting on August 1, the spells of the competition have not yet been drawn.

We remind you that the Tokyo Olympics will take place from July 23 to August 8.
