The primary school children have returned to Vilnius Prince Gediminas Progymnasium for a week. All of them, their parents and teachers were tested before the start of science and again last Friday. There is no virus in any of the piles, the director of the progymnasium told LNK.

The entire community is surveyed in groups, where samples of those who live or learn together are examined together.

Rimantas Remeika, the school principal, emphasizes that it is possible to work safely as long as the entire school community is regularly examined.

“The results showed that we can organize education safely. It is a kind of miracle that shows the concentration and security of the community, ”said R. Remeika.

The school is now awaiting a decision from the government on whether to continue working.

“The next test is on Wednesday or Thursday so that we have accurate data on Friday. The government has decided to work for us until March 7,” explained the director of the Vilnius Duke Gediminas Progymnasium.

Representatives of the Vilnius government and municipality will evaluate the pilot opening of the school on Tuesday.

Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys is optimistic in advance.

“The project appears to have been a success,” he said.

If this experiment is found to be successful, it is expected that more educational institutions will be able to work in this way and more students will be able to return to schools.

It is now being decided how quickly graduates can start getting in touch to prepare for the exams.

“We will discuss and see how many more schools can participate here. I do not want to anticipate the events, but it seems that the project is really a success. Because it is the cumulative method that helps to decide on the possibility of returning (to the schools), it also determines the workload of our laboratories, ”said A. Dulkys.

The school principal says that if the government allows other schools to operate, tests for returnees should be mandatory.

As the volume of COVID-19 testing declines in Lithuania, mandatory testing is worth considering, says Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė.

“Currently, tests are not mandatory, people decide whether to do the test or not. We really believe that it is worth considering the possibility of doing mandatory tests. Because we see that in this period, in an epidemic situation, we will probably have to live some time ”, explained the Minister.
