The situation is getting out of hand: not well prepared for the second wave of COVID-19?

The government’s emergency commission will discuss the epidemiological situation of the coronavirus and institutional preparedness remotely on Tuesday.

“We see that the number of infections is constantly increasing, so the maximum preparation of the institutions is extremely important,” Interior Minister Rita Tamašunienė said in a comment sent to BNS.

Record numbers of coronavirus cases have been recorded in Lithuania in recent days.

As the number of cases increases, the National Center for Public Health is unable to investigate all coronavirus cases promptly, and soldiers are currently assisting specialists.

In the last day, 766 new cases of coronavirus were identified, two people died.

This Monday it was announced that 468 of the 766 new confirmed coronavirus cases were pending.

In total, 10 thousand people in Lithuania were infected with the coronavirus. 949 people, 6600 – still sick, 4166 – recovered.

A total of 136 people died from COVID-19 and 47 from other causes.

Currently, 83 percent of the top five hospitals in the country are occupied. Of the 401 beds for COVID-19 patients, an additional 262 beds are currently being vacated and prepared.
