According to the mayor of Klaipeda, Vytautas Grubliauskas, through the municipality, the shipowners are finalizing the technical details with the dealer.
The idea that the route of the legendary ship “Raketa”, if the season takes place, it would be not only to Nida, but also to Klaipeda. After hearing really positive thoughts and attitudes from Raketa owners, we spoke today at a business meeting in the presence of the dealer, Klaipėda Ship Repair Company, which maintains the docks where Raketai might need to be moored, V. Grubliauskas said Friday. .
According to him, it is considered that Klaipeda could become the last stop of the ship when extending the current route “Kaunas-Nida”, and the most suitable place for the mooring of “Rockets” would be on the bank of the river Dane, on the right bank , about a hundred yards from the Old Ferry.
“If everything goes according to plan, I am afraid to speak about the Raketa owners, but it seems that it could probably start in Kaunas in May and appear in Klaipeda,” said V. Grubliauskas.
The mayor says the possibility of mooring another passenger ship, a catamaran, in Denmark this season is also being discussed.
“There is likely to be an increase in the number of vessels in Denmark that will operate waterways, and there are some challenges in accommodating them more safely and regulating traffic,” he said.
The rebuilt ship “Raketa” was launched in Kaunas in 2019 after a hiatus of nearly three decades, but after delaying the coordination of procedures, it resumed trips to the coast last year.
During the Soviet era, there were about ten high-speed rockets in Lithuania. Most of them sailed on the Kaunas route to the seashore. Regular sailing by high-speed boats ceased in 1995.
