Although the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports (SMSM) has received much criticism in the public sphere for not being prepared in advance for children to return safely to school, and the events of September 1 also raised concerns about the threat of spread of the coronavirus, the celebration still took place. The faces of the participants gathered in the Gediminas Gymnasium were covered with masks, but the mood did not spoil it. After the ceremony, the talking parents smiled and made no secret of the fact that they wanted the children to go back to school.

“It’s not the first time for us,” said first-time father Viktor and his wife, Diana, “but it was really exciting because we didn’t know what it would be like here, wearing masks or opening schools.” Of course, the children felt the same. “

According to the girl’s parents, who started going to first grade, they calmly accepted the message that they would have to go back to school and tried not to think too much about the threat of the coronavirus. She tried not to panic or intimidate the children. It was also revealed that the older boy had to repeat something at the end of the previous school year remotely.

“We had to fight for space at home because we were raising three children, but in the end we adjusted,” they said.

Another firstborn father, Robert, also said he felt no fear for the boys’ school year, more excitement. “We first faced such a situation, but somehow we got over it. Of course, you have to be careful,” she said.

Mothers who accompanied their fifth graders to the September 1 holiday explained that despite the ongoing pandemic, children still need to communicate and learn normally.

“When we first came across distance learning, we were afraid of how things would turn out, but we went in. However, it really is better to go to school, ”said his mother Jelena.

The women said that they had received all the information from the school on how to prepare the children for the celebration, what safety measures to use, so that there was no confusion for them.

“Everything was perfectly explained on the gym’s website – and at one o’clock in the meeting, what safeguards will be used, there was certainly no uncertainty.”

One of the mothers mentioned that her son was eager to attend the September 1 celebration of this year because he wanted to see the country’s president up close.

“They really enjoyed the event, the daughter said she was very happy and happy, that she already wanted to go back to school,” said Jadvyga.

Parents interviewed agreed on the need to look to the future and work to ensure safe conditions for children to learn.

Daiva Losinskienė, director of the Nemenčinė Gediminas Gymnasium, summarized that a strong team of school leaders helped a lot to prepare for this year’s celebration.

“Focusing on the two weeks leading up to the start of the new school year, we worked here and put everything together. Sure, it was a challenge and it was a challenge, but we got through it. We are also planning how the studies will unfold: our school has three separate entrances for different groups of students, the classrooms are organized in blocks so that students do not mix with each other. “

According to Deputy Principal Jurga Stankevičienė, before the start of the new school year, they had only received one call from a parent who did not want to send his son to school. However, she said, since all children have the right to education and the decision has already been made to return the students to school, she should have explained this to their father as well.
