Previously, the first vice president of the Seimas Rima Baškienė has said that the last session of this Seimas can take place on November 11. The main argument was that there are unfinished works, and one of them is the initiative of a group of parliamentarians to appeal to the Constitutional Court (CC) for possible violations of the Seimas Electoral Law.
“I propose to modify the schedule so that the session closes today. (…) If an unscheduled session is organized, there must be an extraordinary session,” said Seimas President Viktoras Pranckietis.
Seimas Vice President Irena Degutienė also believes that Seimas should close the session on Tuesday. “If signatures are collected and there is an unscheduled meeting, I can guarantee that as many signatures will be collected, no matter how many MPs come, others will not come,” he said. Although the Seimas intends to complete its work, it surprised him that the meetings of some Seimas committees are scheduled for Wednesday.
Incidentally, the “peasants” of the Seimas informed the Conference of Elders that the signatures of 49 members of the Seimas had been collected regarding the convening of an unforeseen session.
The fate of the planned unscheduled meeting was also unclear. The end-of-term issue is also likely to be debated when the Seimas plenary session begins on Tuesday.
On Friday, November 13, the Seimas will meet for the first session.
Karbauskis: Today will not be the last session of the Seimas
Although the Seimas Board has expressed the opinion that the Seimas should close the session on Tuesday evening, the elder of the Lithuanian Green and Peasant Union faction of the Seimas, Ramūnas Karbauskis, says that Tuesday will not be the last business day of this Seimas. According to him, the signatures of 49 members of the Seimas have been summoned to convene an extraordinary plenary session. The politician could not say exactly if they had already been formally notified.
“Some of the issues that will be discussed today will not be resolved, and appealing to the CC is one of them, it requires another session,” R. Karbauskis told reporters at Seimas on Tuesday.
According to him, the Spokesperson for Seimas V. Pranckietis knew that signatures had been collected to hold an unplanned session.
