After the presentation, 60 members of the Seimas voted in favor of the draft resolution, 11 against and 52 abstentions.

If the parliamentarians did not agree to start the removal procedure for I. Žilienė on Tuesday, G. Nausėda’s proposal to appoint Renatas Pocius, a member of this service, as the new head of VERT will not yet be presented to the Seimas.

Some members of the Seimas were outraged that I. Žiliene had not been offered another position.

Remigijus Žemaitaitis, who belongs to a mixed group of Seimas members, invited the president to explain to himself, and not through advisers, why he did not offer I. Žilienė to serve for another term. He recalled the stories of the layoffs of the State Comptroller Arūnas Dulkis and the then “peasant” Minister of the Environment Kęstutis Navickas.

The liberal Eugenijus Gentvilas asked if I.Žilienė herself had decided not to work or if “they had consulted her and offered her not to continue.”

“What was the role of the presidency and what was I. Žilienė’s own decision?” To what extent could the presidency’s decision have been influenced by I. Žilienė’s position on the methodology between Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia regarding the Astravas Nuclear Power Plant (its electricity boycott – BNS), “he asked.

According to the President’s advisor, Jaroslav Neverovičius, the selection procedure for candidates for the VERT post was “open”:

According to him, during the leadership of I. Žilienė VERT “the transparency of the system was ensured”. The representative of the Presidency highlighted his contribution to the liberalization of the electricity market, the implementation of strategic projects, the receipt of support from the European Union and the implementation of a more favorable model to support renewable energy for electricity consumers.

However, according to J. Neverovičius, another VERT director would be in a better position to face many challenges.

“But when it comes to the future, the new challenges, the need and the global things to consider as well, not just the everyday ones like innovation, climate change. Overall, R. Pocius was chosen from that discussion as his concept. and most appropriate approach for future work, ”said the President’s Advisor al Seimas.

I.Žilienė’s term of office will end on January 20.
