In his speech to the Seimas, A. Jakubauskas emphasized that he was meeting the goals that had been set for him and set by the Seimas Board of the previous legislature. Therefore, the desire of the current rulers to fire him for the objectives he pursues means that he is between two different political mills of the Seimas authorities.
“The reason I am here is to try to initiate reforms in the center. I was forced to do so by the conclusions of the working group formed by the previous Board of Seimas. So I feel like I’m in a political mill. More precisely, between the two Seimas boards: the Seimas Board of the current mandate and the mills of this Board ”, the LGGRTC director spoke from the Seimas rostrum before voting on the dismissal, claiming that he did not listen to 61 employees of support, and the invitation was allegedly ignored during audits of the Genocide Research Center.
A. Jakubauskas points out that one of his main goals in becoming the director of the center was to organize and depoliticize objective and impartial research.
“If you remember, during the previous legislature of the Seimas I said that if they appointed me I would seek the depoliticization of the center. “For no political force to impose on the center, I would not ask to whiten or blacken the staff or a certain historical fact,” he said.
He stressed that before assuming the leadership of the LGGRTC, the center had 543 employees during its 24 years of operation, which represents an average of 16 employees per year. Therefore, he stressed that he will seek to improve the psychological climate of this institution and strengthen management.
A. Jakubauskas rejected the allegations about the alleged application of the harassment center to employees, noting that dr. He dismissed Mingailė Jurkutė in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Lithuania regarding the denigration of the Genocide Research Center. However, the director of the center points out that he was allegedly subjected to psychological harassment.
“Mobing has been applied to me and my family for two months,” said A. Jakubauskas.
We remind you that at the end of January, the employees of the center approached the Spokesperson of the Seimas, concerned about the performance of the LGGRTC leadership. The speech noted that LGGRTC employees are concerned about the underestimation of historical science, directing historical research in the direction of ideologization and politicization. It was noted that the LGGRTC leadership encourages the public to participate in the “defense of history” and the “wars of memory.”
Employees also expressed concern that the center has a tense emotional climate and that pressure from management is forcing experienced historians to leave their jobs. Indignation was also expressed by the director of LGGRTC A. Jakubauskas, and Vidmantas Valiušaitis, senior adviser, journalist, publicist and book author who has already resigned. His competence to fill this position was questioned. After the tensions, V. Valiušaitis announced that he had resigned from his current position.
Recently, tensions have been fueled by the fact that A. Jakubauskas fired historian dr. M. Jurkutė, who spared no criticism from the LGGRTC management. According to A. Jakubauskas, M. Jurkutė was fired not for criticism of the center, but for spreading incorrect information.
Comment from Mindaugas Puidokas:
“We have asked the political groups for evidence of violations of the law. We did not receive any response, after asking A. Jakubauskas, he also replied that no evidence had been provided. Today, we are not voting for Professor Adas Jakubauskas, but for how we will approach the history of Lithuania’s freedom struggles. Professor Jakubauskas just found himself, as they say, not in time and place, on the other side of the road for everyone who wanted Lithuania to give up its heroes and write its history “politically correct” and useful to someone.
For many years, the Center for Research on Genocide and Resistance has been under public and legal pressure to condemn the various participants in our nation’s struggles for freedom. This is also the first volunteer, the diplomat Kazis Škirpas. This includes General Jonas Noreik, who was imprisoned by the Nazi Stuthof and eventually tortured by the Soviets. This is also the case of the head of the Provisional Government Juozas Brazaitis, about whom it is inevitable to lie even that the United States Senate had not accepted him from any conclusion that would absolve him of collaborating with the Nazis.
These accusations will never end until Lithuania tells them a clear and strict “no”. We have already seen many cases where the accusers tried to limit our patience and self-esteem. The following year, Faina Kukliansky tried to claim that Lukša-Daumantas was a Jewish shooter, and that Israeli portals were already lying that Professor Landsbergis’s father, the architect Vytautas Landsbergis-Žemkalnis, was lying. These are constant checks on how much pressure can be exerted on Lithuania to give up its heroes.
These attacks on Lithuanian heroes always coincide with the propaganda of hostile forces. Both the postwar supporters and the June rebels agree.
The center of the genocide is at the center of this pressure. Every year he is pressured to condemn those convicted by the Kremlin and those mentioned. The Genocide Center has never succumbed to pressure. Defending the honor of Lithuania, he even won lawsuits against the black Lithuanian Grantas Gochin.
Finally, the Genocide Center even discovered and announced that Jonas Noreika himself was the organizer and front page of the Šiauliai Jewish Anti-National Rescue Network. The attackers to the center began to interpret that this was not the conclusion of the historians, although it was consistent with the historians of the center.
Adas Jakubauskas has the only sin in this situation. He does not give in to pressure and it is clear to everyone that he will not give in. It doesn’t suit our liberal coalition in the sense that it gets caught up in “progressive” historians and influential figures in the Nazi hunt.
Jakubauskas is defended by personalities like Cardinal Sigitas Tamkevičius, Nijolė Sadūnaitė, Antanas Terleckas, many resisters, deportees, freedom fighters and most, I emphasize, most of the center staff, because they probably understand what is important to them, but not important to them. those who ask prof. Remove Jakubauskas from his post. They understand that by attracting prof. Jakubauskas and seeing the composition of this Seimas, one can expect the appointment of only one director of this type who would begin to sign after the accusations against our resistance.
Therefore, today we are not voting for Adas Jakubauskas. We are voting for the preservation of the history of our struggles for freedom and the honor of its participants.
I call on everyone to act in accordance with their conscience and the Labor Party will not participate in this vote, “said Mr Puidokas.
Comment from Aidas Jakubauskas:
“This is perhaps the only case in the history of parliamentarism in Lithuania, and perhaps in the whole of Europe, and perhaps the whole world, in which a person is punished and fired in advance. Because the deadline should end in 2025. on the 1st. July, but after working for 7 months, it was decided that the person is poorly managed and cannot cope. Supposedly using mobbing … in principle, which was not, “A. Jakubauskas told reporters after the vote secret of the members of the Seimas.
“No that man was sitting in a chair and needed to be replaced,” he noted.
Having lost the position of director of the Genocide Research Center, said A. Jakubauskas, he will continue his work as a scientist.
“I am a person from the academic community, so I will extend my career as a researcher. I am a teacher, I will investigate what has not yet been investigated, I will write books that have not yet been written, ”said A. Jakubauskas.
