“After giving up the fight for the brand and fearing for the future, we decided to transfer the brand and the production line to new owners,” he explained.

Butter Butter was established in 2014 in Kaunas. D. Stonė, together with Milda Beržanskaitė, presented the first natural nut butter in Lithuania.

Precisely because she calls her product butter, the entrepreneurs received a letter from the State Food and Veterinary Service (SFVS) late last year demanding a rebrand.

According to the Authority, it does not comply with current requirements in the European Union, which prohibit the designation of plant foods as the appropriate term for dairy products and, therefore, can mislead consumers.

“Butter Butter” did not agree to SFVS ‘request, and their dispute continues to this day, pending a decision from the European Commission.
