The percentage of hospitalized patients increases faster than the number of infected patients

According to data from Thursday, more than 2.1 thousand patients are treated in hospitals in Lithuania. COVID-19 patients, of which 173 were in resuscitation. 1,212 patients need oxygen and 101 people are given artificial lung ventilation.

The number of new patients admitted to hospitals during the long period of the pandemic in Lithuania directly coincided with another indicator: the detection of new infections. At present, however, the researcher observes that the discrepancy between these two indicators is increasingly pronounced.

The researcher also provides a graph in which the red dots indicate the number of patients admitted to COVID-19 hospitals and the black dots indicate how many should be admitted according to the number of officially infected.

“We can see that if in mid-November those numbers coincided less and less, then from mid-November more and more fighting patients (red dots) were admitted than should be according to the officially registered number of infected people ( blacks) “, commented A. Džiugys.

According to the scientist, it can be assumed that at least about 20-30 percent. the infected “hide”. This means notifying the authorities of your illness only when you can no longer do without medical help.

“It really was like that before, but now their participation has grown significantly. Or, because of limited testing options, a large proportion of asymptomatic symptoms are not being studied either, although they would like to investigate them. Here’s how they get into that 20-30 percent. and if they don’t isolate themselves, they become distributors of the infection, the researcher wrote.

A. Dulkys also gives several reasons why some sick people hide. According to the scientist, such behavior may be caused by fear that their freedom of movement and communication will be restricted, that other people will avoid it.

In addition, a person may be afraid of losing income because job opportunities will be limited, as well as fear of being accused of infecting others.

Cooperation with NVSC is not always possible

According to Daiva Razmuvienė, an epidemiologist at the National Public Health Center (NVSC), there are many people who do not want to reveal all their contacts or say none when they have coronavirus.

Such behavior not only complicates the work of epidemiologists, but also causes some people not even to know when and where they were infected.

“There are more and more cases, and more and more people do not want to speak. His answer is “I do not want everything, I will not give information.” There are reluctants, there are lies, all kinds of options. We asked him where he was, where he visited, but some don’t remember all the places. Others do not specifically mention certain places, stays, meetings that cannot be. Others ask not to interfere with such things at all, ”said D. Razmuvienė.
