23-year-old Vytautas Čestavičius, who has been sentenced four times before, paid with just a year and a half in prison, and including punishment for the previous crime, he will spend a total of 2 years in jail.

V.Čestavičius, who lives in the village of Šilų (Jonava district), was furious for the last time on the night of July 30, 2020: while drunk, he falsely called the police.

Taken to the Jonava Commissariat, he pulled out a knife which he hid behind his back.

The officer recalled that by pointing a knife at her neck, the attacker tried to hit her, but was saved from his own reaction by pushing the hand of V. Čestavičius.

The abuser was later arrested in time by a police officer. A severe degree of intoxication (2.75 percent alcohol) was found in an aggressive young man.

However, the court ruled that it was not an assassination attempt, that insufficient evidence had been gathered that an attempt had been made to take his life. V.Čestavičius was acquitted due to the assault, convicted only for resisting the police.

Such a verdict surprised officials and will likely be appealed.

V. Čestavičius was sentenced to between 8 and 20 years in prison, but was sentenced to a light sentence by court decision.

The unemployed young man has already been convicted of health problems, drug possession, as well as the fact that a drunkard caused an accident and seriously injured a person. His last sentence is already the fifth.
