As Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys spoke at Wednesday’s meeting, this decision was made taking into account that the number of new Covid-19 cases has not decreased recently.
“We propose to extend the duration of the quarantine regime on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania by one month. With the introduction of strict quarantine conditions in the country, the incidence has decreased, but the number of cases registered per week remains high, ”said Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys at Wednesday’s meeting.
From now on, it will be possible not to wear masks in open spaces, maintaining a distance of at least two meters between people other than family members. The requirements for wearing masks indoors do not change.
Finally, the restriction on the movement of the population was extended until March 15, inclusive. However, residents can move between “circular” municipalities, some people living in adjacent areas. In the municipalities of the city and the district of Alytus, the city and the district of Kaunas, the city and the district of Klaipėda, the city and the district of Panevėžys, the city and the district of Šiauliai, the city and the district of Vilnius, moves between the indicated adjacent municipalities.
“It just came to our notice then. It is a shame that we cannot go ahead with our approved plan. It is obvious that today we can make so many decisions,” Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said.
Experts suggested extending the quarantine
The Council of Experts proposed extending the quarantine to the government on Tuesday. It is true that they did not propose a specific duration.
“The entire Council of Experts unanimously agreed that the quarantine as such a measure should be extended,” Vaidotas Grigas, member of the Council of Experts and director of the public institution Molėtai Hospital, said on Tuesday.
“It just came to our attention then. Here, of course, the decision is left to the government. Our recommendation is for a longer period of time,” added V. Grigas.
According to him, this decision was made in view of the fact that the number of new cases detected per day is no longer decreasing and is even showing signs of increase.
“Certainly, this is not the third wave that has been transmitted, but it is worrying,” said a member of the expert council.
According to Grig, this recommendation includes a provision of principle to continue with the quarantine, but its conditions can be relaxed even more, the most important thing is simply not to risk the immediate release of all or most of the restrictions.
“Every week there are discussions in different sectors, as far as I know, there will be communication with the cultural sector this week. The Council of Experts is constantly reviewing and revising, making proposals to the Government on how to apply which measures and which could be facilitated, ”said V. Grigas.
