On Tuesday, during the extraordinary session of the Seimas, the National Union of the Party of the Republic of Lithuania organized a rally “Let’s defend Lithuania”.
It is noted that the demonstration requires by all means to stop and not allow illegal immigrants to cross the border, whatever their status, and to legally recognize the illegal immigrants from Belarus as participants in the regime’s aggression against Lithuania.
This is the second demonstration to take place against refugees arriving in Lithuania.
Ask the country not to accept refugees
“Hello to all who care about what is happening in Lithuania. Lithuania in danger, Lithuania in danger, Lithuania in danger …” – the demonstration began with these words, after which they sang the National Anthem, carried flags and posters, and the protesters demanded that the government take decisions that they considered beneficial for the country.
The posters read: “Illegal – saboteurs, green people – to Lukiškės”, “We demand – to avoid illegal border crossing !!!,” Immediate deportation – do not accept asylum applications “, etc.
One of the organizers of the rally, a political scientist and Vytautas Sinica, professor of political science at Vytautas Magnus University, says that the main objective of the dozens of protesters gathered is “to tell the rulers and the Seimas in general that – do not accept immigrants in Lithuania ”.
In statements to the news portal tv3.lt, he says that he agrees that this decision is controversial, because it contradicts some international agreements: “But not a single European country, faced with the flow of artificial migrants, has made that decision and closed its borders. Lithuania should dare to do the same, “he urged.
Vytautas Radžvilas, president of the National Union, says that the protesters are protesting against what they saw in the Soviet era: “.
He also talks about the artificial mixing and assimilation of nations in politics, which he says is the biggest problem.
“Western Europe is reaping the benefits of this policy and we know that parallel societies are emerging when immigration of this magnitude begins. We want Lithuania not to experience it again, all you have to do is feel like a state and say that Lithuania was and It will be a country open to the world, but only those who need to be admitted will enter. None of the refugees meet the criteria, “he tells the news portal tv3.lt.
Better late than never
According to Sinica, the government began dealing with the migration crisis too late, but did not deny that it was happy to take action: “Better late than never,” said the political scientist.
“I think the decisions that are related to the construction of the border, with a faster consideration of various asylum applications. You have the right decisions, but only a little bit to a decision in principle. But this is a bit next to a decision in principle, which does not exist.
According to him, Lithuanian society does not care where migrants come from, be it through border posts or through forests, society wants to stop their entry into the country, cities and municipalities.
“These decisions will ensure that people keep coming; through the border posts, we will find where to house them or how to return them, which will definitely not be resolved in 10 days.” Now the farmers are finding them in the fields, the situation is chaotic, which could only be solved by closing the border, ”says V. Sinica at Tuesday’s rally.
If the border is not closed and Lithuania continues to allow refugees, in his opinion, people will “be left alone” and this can have serious consequences for Lithuania; terrorism can also be threatened:
“When the State stopped taking care of them, they released them from the detention centers and found themselves in a completely alien cultural culture with nothing. There is a threat to public safety, other tensions, and ultimately terrorism. Admitting thousands of people from Islam is known to statistically support terrorism, ”he added.
The Seimas summons an extraordinary session
During the one-day session, MPs plan to adopt amendments that would reduce the asylum application procedures to ten days.
The amendments proposed by the government would also restrict the free movement of migrants crossing the border illegally on the territory of Lithuania, they would restrict their other rights when an emergency situation is declared in the country due to the influx of migrants.
The government is calling for amendments to the legal status of foreigners to be considered with special urgency, so it is scheduled to present the draft amendments to the law on Tuesday and vote on their adoption later.
The Seimas members will also hear Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė’s report “Actions of the Lithuanian Government and institutions in response to hybrid threats” and vote on the relevant Seimas resolution.
He held the first protest against refugees
On Sunday, the organizers of the Great March for the Defense of the Family organized the first protest action against immigrants who flow illegally from Belarus to Lithuania.
Protecting cars with signs such as “Europe is not your home” or “STOP illegal immigration”, the protesters demonstrated on the road from Druskininkai to Latežeris.
This place is the closest to the Lithuanian-Belarusian border, where a protest action is allowed without additional coordination with the institutions, according to the organizers.
Raimondas Grinevičius, the organizer of the rally, told BNS that the protest was also organized due to the “inability of the government” to resolve the migration crisis.
“Our government has added such things that now people who work on the border, local residents and municipal budgets have to work,” said R. Grinevičius.
About 150 people attended the rally, according to the protest organizer.
According to the website of the Family Movement, the protests “do not have an end time, it is possible that the first” guards “who arrived will be replaced by later volunteers; this issue will be decided on the spot depending on the situation.” .
The number of detained migrants is decreasing
The number of illegal immigrants detained at the border with Belarus is gradually decreasing, Antanas Montvydas, deputy head of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) said on Monday.
In total, Lithuanian officials detained 1,676 migrants at the border with Belarus this year, 20 times more than last year. Many of them are from African countries and the Middle East.
Minsk claims that migrants are no longer detained on Belarusian territory due to EU sanctions.
Due to the sharp increase in the flow of migrants, the government has declared a state of emergency.
