It is said that universal quarantine is not needed yet
Professor Vytautas Usonis says in the program “Delfi diena” that universal quarantine would not be very necessary now, because the decided measures in real time have not yet been used.
“I don’t think we are in a situation today that requires a strict global quarantine because there are untapped measures that are being implemented now. Let’s say they may have been introduced earlier, but we can expect local effects, whether it is municipalities where there are more problems, or separate districts, individual institutions, there are stricter control conditions there, we can expect infection control.
Prof. skilled. Dr. Vytautas Usonis
This path is not yet fully exploited and we must analyze it, because quarantine is always a balance between security and the price we are willing to pay. The stricter the measures, the more they affect the life of society, especially the life of modern society ”, says V. Usonis.
Teacher: We don’t take this infection seriously enough
According to the professor, there are still people who seem to deny the existence of the coronavirus, but all the examples both in Lithuania and around the world show that reasoned information must be believed, not rumors.
“If 300 diseases are still not convincing, then the question is when to convince, if those deaths, how many are there in Lithuania and in the world, I do not know how much and what is needed, once again respecting the opinion of all people.”, Emphasizes the interlocutor.
When asked what we did wrong, that coronavirus numbers increased to 300 a day, the professor says there could be many reasons for how and where people might have contracted, and the election period may have contributed to that jump.
“The incubation period for coronavirus infection is 5 to 14 days. Usually 7-8 days, so let’s face it: today is 21 days, let’s reject those days, so we have that time (choice period) and the people who were diagnosed with the infection today or yesterday are infected between October 10 and 11. During that time, there were many different things in our lives. It is difficult to go back and evaluate. Epidemiologists do this work, where you can choose and find out, they really try to do it, find out what infected people were doing two weeks ago, whether they visited, contacted somewhere, it is the diligent work of epidemiologists, but in many cases fail. to know the epidemiological chain ”, emphasizes V. Usonis.
“If a person knows that they are infected, isolation measures are very important and there must also be a much stricter disinfection,” adds V. Usonis. “We don’t take this infection seriously enough, not in medical facilities, but in families. That’s why we get the same result.”
The situation in schools is a serious problem
When asked if it should be taken before winter and Christmas and it was announced that children will learn from home, V. Usonis emphasized that this is a much more serious problem than one might think.
“It just came to our knowledge then. Of course, if we look strictly only from the epidemiological point of view, it is clear that then we are going to isolate all of us a few meters from each other, we do not meet, do not work, do not live, but the The teaching process is very multifaceted. If the children are not busy in schools, where are they busy? Who will take care of the younger children, who will take care of them?
On the other hand, it is clear that if there is only distance learning, the quality is not equal to the face-to-face or mixed learning module and the different options.

The problem is multifaceted, we must evaluate many circumstances, but again in educational institutions we cannot evaluate all of them in one shoe, much depends on the specific school, the peculiarities of engineering,.
There is a lack of stricter control of recommendations
According to V. Usonis, the situation is also deteriorating due to the lack of stricter control over how people follow the recommendations.
“Yes, first you have to implement the simple things: masks, hand hygiene, social distances, but once you turn around, those measures will not work again if they are not accepted in society. Since the beginning of the pandemic we have come saying that public health measures only work when they are accepted by society.
We may have recommendations for bicycle helmets, but if people don’t wear them, there will be injuries, there are many examples. Perhaps we could speak of stricter monitoring of compliance with those recommendations. Well it’s one of the ways, ”says my teacher.
Municipalities will be divided according to morbidity: quarantine will be introduced in the red zone
The country’s municipalities will be divided into three groups according to the incidence of the coronavirus (COVID-19), and the quarantine will be introduced in the red zone, the government has decided.
During a meeting on Wednesday, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the criteria according to which both foreign states and the country’s municipalities are divided into groups of green, yellow and red zones.
“The list of affected municipalities would be published every Friday, starting Monday. The quarantine regime would be announced when the municipality is assigned to the red group,” said Health Minister Aurelijus Veryga.
Similar criteria would apply both to the inclusion of foreign countries in the list of affected countries and at the national level.
