“The objective of the agreement is to focus the efforts of the political and educational community on the fundamental changes in education that are necessary for education to become a sustainable basis for the progress and human well-being of the country,” said the head of Government in a comment to BNS.

“In shaping the agreement, we will endeavor to take into account societal expectations, future economies, global innovations in educational policy and practice, recommendations from international institutions, and research, financial, material, and intellectual resources for the implementation of the agreement “she said.

The meeting will also be attended by Jurgita Šiugždinienė, Minister of Education, Science and Sports, Saulė Mačiukaitė-Žvinienė, President of the Lithuanian Education Council, Roma Žakaitienė, Administrative Director of the Association of Lithuanian Municipalities, Arūnas Žukauskas, President of Seimas Education and the Scientific Committee, the liberal Raimondas Lop, the members of the conservative Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė of the Seimas, the “worker” Ieva Kačinskaitė-Urbonienė, the social democrat Vilija Targamadzė, the “opposite” Eugenijus Jovaiša, the representatives of the mixed group of members of the Seimas Algirdas Butkeviša Beata Petkevič.

The national agreement on education is expected to be signed before the start of the next school year.

The national agreement on education is enshrined in the agreement of the new center-right governing coalition, and President Gitanas Nausėda also calls for such an agreement between the parties.
