On Friday, the president discussed with Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas and Klaipėdos Nafta head Darius Šilenskis the prospects of acquiring the LNG storage vessel after the expiration of the current independence lease agreement in 2024, the Presidency announced.
“The president emphasized that before making final decisions, all possible options must be thoroughly analyzed, the natural gas market development trends evaluated and the most economically reasonable alternative selected,” the report read.
Klaipedos Nafta, the oil and LNG terminal operator, should either buy the LNG storage vessel Independence or purchase another vessel by the end of 2024, when the current lease with Norwegian company Hoegh LNG expires.
The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) lent up to LTL 160 million to a Lithuanian company. 134.1 million euros for the purchase of an LNG vessel. EUR for the boat rental fee, distributed until 2044.
This is the second Lithuanian power facility that the president has been visiting recently. In July, it was allocated to the Kruonis accumulation hydroelectric plant (HAE).
