Around 4 p.m. In the morning, a Range Rover was driven from one of Tartu’s apartment buildings. According to the initial report, the thieves broke the vehicle’s lock and took it away in just a few minutes, reports rus.delfi.ee.
“I had to start the operation. Suspecting that the thieves may be armed and dangerous, in addition to the patrols, special units and rapid response teams were also called,” said Rainas Vosmanas, head of the District Criminal Office of the South (Louna).
According to R. Vosman, the car driven from Tartu was moving towards Valga.
“Police officers chased the driven car, which the criminal used to try to escape, sometimes increasing speed to 200 km / h. On the Valga highway, the police attempted to create various obstacles to force the car to stop. However, the person behind the wheel of the Range Rover decided to arrest the police cars that had to stop him, so the police were forced to push the car off the road to protect their lives and health, “Vosman explained.
The overturned Range Rover driver jumped out of a moving vehicle and attempted to escape into the woods. A service dog, Deniro, was released to help him. The thieves were arrested for a short time.
During the operation, another suspect was arrested and was waiting in Tartu during the events described. As he was unexpectedly caught, he did not resist his arrest.
Commenting on the incident, Aro Siinmaa, head of the Southern District Prosecutor’s Office, added that there were reasons to suspect that the man detained in Tartu was also involved in previously reported car accidents in Estonia. Information on the second detainee is currently being reviewed.
“Evidence is currently being collected and systematized, and tomorrow the prosecutor’s office will present a request for the arrest of the suspects,” Siinmaa said.
