A United Airlines plane that flew from Denver to Hawaii on Saturday crashed an engine shortly after takeoff and the massive debris crashed over a residential area before a safe emergency landing, authorities said.
The video, taken from inside the plane, shows that the right engine of the Boeing 777-200 in the wing was on fire and wobbled, and the hood fell off.
There were 231 passengers and 10 crew members on board.

“I can honestly say that at one point I thought we were going to die, because we started to lose height right after the explosion,” a passenger, David Delucia, told The Denver Post.
“I grabbed my wife’s hand and said, ‘It’s over,'” he said.
Delucia said her stepdaughter posted a video on Twitter of another passenger.
“Flight UA328 from Denver to Honolulu suffered an engine failure shortly after departure, returned safely to Denver and was met by emergency crews as a precautionary measure,” United Airlines said in a statement.
“Most of the original UA328 customers are traveling to Honolulu on a new flight,” the company said, adding that those who did not want to travel immediately received hotel accommodations.
The post, posted on air traffic monitoring website liveatc.net, hears a pilot asking for emergency permission to return to Denver without any noticeable panic in his voice.
Heather Solar, who was training for her women’s soccer team in the park at the time, said she heard the explosion, and after that debris began to fall from the sky.
At the time, residents of the Brumfield suburb of Denver found large aircraft debris scattered throughout their settlement, including a giant circular piece of metal that had fallen into Kirby Clement’s yard.

“It’s kind of shocking,” he told CNN.
“He landed directly on my truck,” the man said, noting that another large accident left a 1.5 meter diameter hole in the neighbor’s roof.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it was “aware of reports of debris near the aircraft’s flight path” and added that it would investigate the incident with the National Transportation Safety Board.
“If you find debris, do not touch or move it. The National Transportation Safety Board wants all debris to remain at the site for investigation,” Blumfield police wrote on Twitter.
Police shared photos showing debris scattered on the sports field in a park, including a piece of the plane with a red warning message: “Stay out of danger areas while the engine is running.”
United Airlines said it “will continue to work with federal agencies to investigate the incident.”
FAA chief Steve Dickson said some of the ocean liners “probably” would not be able to fly for at least some time due to additional inspections.
He held a meeting with a group of aviation experts following Saturday’s Boeing 777 engine crash as the liner took off from Denver.
“I have instructed you to issue an Emergency Airworthiness Directive requiring immediate or intensified inspections of Boeing 777 aircraft equipped with a Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engine,” Dickson said in a Twitter message.

The Boeint 777-200, which had 231 passengers and 10 crew members, saw a burning starboard engine and a vibrating wing. When Liner returned to the Denver airport, the entire engine hood was missing.
No one on the plane or on the ground was injured in the incident, authorities said.
According to S. Dickson, preliminary data from the study showed that the turbine blades of the casing engines need further inspection.
“Based on preliminary information, we have concluded that it is necessary to shorten the inspection interval for hollow blades that are unique to this model of engines used only in Boeing 777 aircraft,” said the FAA chief.
He added that FAA officials will meet with representatives from Pratt & Whitney and Boeing on Sunday night.
The incident involved an ocean liner UA328 on a flight from Denver to Honolulu. The engine failed shortly after the start of the flight.
Residents of the suburbs of Brumfield, Denver, found large wreckage of an airplane in their settlement, including a large metal ring that had fallen into someone’s yard.
The pilots were able to land the liner safely.
