The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports says Minister Algirdas Monkevičius’s initiative, which was largely approved by the government in September, has been postponed due to quarantine restrictions and the fact that doctors did not take advantage of a similar measure. .

“As far as we know, this year, due to the quarantine restriction of the activities of some recreational service providers and the still considerable need for rest by doctors, the allocation of funds was suspended because there would be no way to use them. However, we hope that this specific grant be awarded next year, ”the SNB said in a response from the ministry.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport had proposed to allocate funds for the rest of teachers from the measures planned for the promotion of Lithuanian tourism, which are included in the plan of measures to boost the economy and reduce the consequences caused by the spread of the coronavirus. It was planned to allocate 6.3 million. euros.

The Minister of Economy and Innovation, Rimantas Sinkevičius, has told BNS that the system has been created, but that no funding is provided for it and that decisions on these measures must be taken by the new Seimas, and support will have to be coordinated with the European Commission.

In September, the Cabinet of Ministers widely approved plans to provide 100 euro benefits to educators starting in December. Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said then that it would be the same measure as for doctors, designed to support the business of tourism and health together.

The government awarded scholarships of € 200 each to doctors this year, but many of them were unable to take advantage of the services offered due to tight working hours and quarantine restrictions, so the opportunity was extended until mid-December.
