According to NVSC Director Robertas Petraitis, this is a political decision that was made a long time ago, when it was decided that the culprit should be found. It was clear, so it came as no surprise, the media report said.

“I have received an offer to leave the NVSC in the form of an agreement, that is, with certain conditions of the agreement. In general, I was offered to leave the job with a solid compensation for the commitment not to provide information about the activities of the ministry. Considering that there were only a few months left until the end of the period, this would have been the simplest solution for me. And, apparently, it would have been very favorable for some, because the situation would have been “zero”. But like I said, I worked honestly all the time. My only regret is that this policy includes the employees of the institution who have worked and are working day and night to overcome this situation ”, says R. Petraitis.

In addition, he said, the public opinion of the Ministry of Health on the deficiencies of the work organization was not founded. During the evaluation, no arguments other than “bad” were made. Nor were arguments presented during the official inspection, which criticized, in essence, the Director’s public statements.

The head of the NVSC is removed from office – a representative of the Minister

Robertas Petraitis, director of the National Public Health Center (NVSC), received an unfavorable annual assessment on Friday, prompting his dismissal, a spokeswoman for the health minister told BNS.

“After a conversation with Mr. R. Petraitis, the minister made the decision to negatively assess his service activities in 2020 and remove him from his post,” Minister Aūnas Šuksta, spokesman for Minister Arūnas Dulkis, informed BNS on Friday.

According to her, the head of the NVSC has two working days to know the conclusion of the evaluation and then will have another five working days to present a request for evaluation of its activities to the performance evaluation commission.

According to A. Šuksta, during the performance evaluation, the tasks of the previous year, their evaluation indicators, the abilities to perform the functions stated in the job description and their qualification were discussed with the head of the NVSC.

R. Petraitis himself announced that he would be fired on Friday. He says he presented the results of the previous year in the annual evaluation and did not hear any specific performance evaluations from the Minister of Health.

Doubt about official statistics

Later, during a press conference, he said that he presented to the Minister the activities carried out at the NVSC airports in the spring, which helped curb the spread of the infection, and the fact that the center successfully investigated all cases in the summer. In Europe.

According to the NVSC director, they cannot propose functions and initiatives themselves, it is coordinated by the ministry. According to him, NVSC successfully participates in international activities, its activities are evaluated by international experts.

“I really do not agree that my activities and the activities of the institution are evaluated as unsatisfactory. I think the reason for such evaluation is that I have been asking questions about systemic problems of the health system and the integrity of information systems during all year round, ”said the manager during a press conference.

He said he would take the opportunity to appeal to the performance evaluation commission.

Petraitis also criticized the coronavirus data system unveiled by Statistics Lithuania on Thursday, which it said was “a bit strange” to NVSC specialists.

According to him, the notion of statistical recovery has been questioned, because when a person considers himself healthy, he is regulated by legislation.

“It can’t be statistically healthy for some units,” he said.

The director said he also informed the ministry about discrepancies between the Statistics Department and the information they had.

“We have already noticed that the data in our system no longer matches the data from the Statistics Department, although the data is taken from a single system. Today we saw 600 positive cases, yesterday there were more than 500 cases. There are doubts as to whether this is not done specifically to artificially reduce the number of cases, release the quarantine and then find again those responsible for some of the omitted numbers, ”said R. Petraitis.

According to A. Šuksta, the ministry does not evaluate his public speeches.

R. Petraitis has been urged by Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys to resign from the NVSC, but he refused, saying that criticism of the center’s activities is unfounded.
