“The lighthouse will be open to visitors on July 4 at 5 pm. Until July 8, it will open only in the evenings, there will also be an art program, and from July 9, it will be open every day from 10 am at 7 pm, ”said L. Motuzienė.
According to her, a visit to the lighthouse will be paid: it will cost five euros and up to ten people will be admitted at a time.
“We plan to be able to visit the lighthouse in mid-September. (…) The money raised will be used for its maintenance, the salaries of the employees,” said the head of the Neringa museums.
It was previously planned to open the lighthouse from July 6 to commemorate the Day of the State Coronation: King Mindaugas of Lithuania.
“On July 4, the” N zemė “art festival begins in Nida, therefore, we agreed to bring forward the opening date of the lighthouse and allow the festival to operate on the premises of this building for several days. (… ) The lighthouse will have art and show facilities, “said L. Motuzienė.
According to her, the Nida lighthouse is the first maritime lighthouse in the country to be opened to the public.
According to L. Motuzienė, the Nida lighthouse belonged to the Lithuanian Transport Security Administration until the end of last year, but after the light equipment of the lighthouse was renewed, it was decided to turn it over to the Neringa municipality.
“The light emanating from the headlight now works automatically, so you no longer need the kind of maintenance you used to have. For this reason, the administration gave the lighthouse to the municipality of Neringa, and it to us, “said L. Motuzienė.
The Nida Lighthouse is the highest level of road in Lithuania. Built on Urbo Hill, the 29-meter-high lighthouse emits a visible light signal 41 kilometers from the coast.
Its lighting equipment was updated in 2016.
A red brick hexagonal lighthouse has been operating at this location since 1874, but at the end of World War II, in 1944, it was blown up by German soldiers upon retreat.
A year later, the lighthouse was rebuilt, and in 1953, it was rebuilt. Then the current cylindrical lighthouse building was built.
