A Moscow court has reopened a lawsuit against Kremlin critic Alexei Navaln over the impeachment of a World War II veteran. However, the case was not closed on Friday, the next meeting is scheduled for February 12.
Last June, a commission of inquiry investigating serious crimes filed a lawsuit against A. Navalnas for the honor and dignity of veteran Ignatius Artemenko. I. Artemenko himself did not appear in the courtroom today, he attended the court hearing remotely.
The committee said the veteran had spoken out in a promotional video against the constitutional amendments approved last summer, which would open several seats for President Vladimir Putin to remain as head of state until 2036.
A. Navalnas posted a video on Twitter, in which he named the veteran and other people seen in the clip such as the gda, companies, non-sins and idiots of the country.
The opposition is not guilty of his guilt and claims that his prosecution is politically motivated.
The case is a public action because the Kremlin needs a second in the media: A. Navalnas pretended to be a war veteran, A. Navalnas said in court.
For me, this is very slow and intolerable. They use it (veteran V) as lei, the object of ridicule becomes a 95-year-old man, said A. Navalnas.
While the case was pending, the elderly veteran’s health deteriorated and the court was suspended.
After the incident with the veteran’s health, A. Navalnas indicated that he was using the government, in September A. Navalnas asked not to force him to testify in court, but this was not done. According to the Kremlin critic, under pressure to testify, I. Artemenka may be assassinated, and then the blame will fall on A. Navalnas.
To close the hearing on Friday and take a break from the trial, the prosecutor asks at that time to give testimony of the veteran duck. A. Navalnas took a breath, saying that he wanted to do it, because the witness no longer knew how to resort to lies.
I just caught you. Once again, the moment I press you against the wall, you announce the break up again. He doesn’t know what to say to him and you don’t know what to say to him! A. Navalnas spoke. However, the meeting was closed.
Seeks to stop investigations
Navaln’s lawyers, like himself, have linked the indictment to the upcoming elections for the president of the Russian Federation and the State Duma, saying the goal was to eliminate the possibility of a criticism from the Kremlin.
The aim is to prosecute Navaln in order to suspend his anti-corruption investigations and remove him from the candidacy for the State Duma elections … and the presidential elections, Kremlin critic Vadim Kobzev said on Friday.
The lawyer added that the case in question was well founded, contradicted the norms of the law and was unfounded.
A. Navaln himself paid in court that the accusation was linked to his active political activity and criticism of the current government.
At present, up to two years in prison can be imposed in Russia, but Navaln’s lawyers say that such punishment cannot be imposed on a critic of the Kremlin, as the punishment for such crimes was changed before Navaln allegedly executed his sentence.
British and French diplomats are present in the audience.
According to the correspondent for the Interfax news agency, on the territory of the Moscow Babukin District Court, where the case is being examined by a justice of the peace in view of the large number of press officers, a reinforced police force is on duty. and several cars are parked by detainees. there are currently no detainees.
On Tuesday, Moscow’s Simonovsky District Court ruled that the 44-year-old Navaln would have to spend two years and a few months playing because he had breached the terms of a probation sentence imposed on him in a robbery case in 2014. The European Union is calling on Russia to release Navaln and is considering new sanctions for those responsible for Navaln’s arrest. The Director of Diplomacy of the EU, Josep Borrell, is also visiting Moscow.
The protests are postponed
Leonid Volkov, a member of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navaln, who currently lives in Lithuania, on Thursday called on jailed Kremlin critics to take part in anti-government demonstrations later this year.
The call was made by Russian police during recent demonstrations across the country, arresting 10,000 people.
During a YouTube broadcast, Volkov said that Navalno’s comrades would try to hold more demonstrations, but not every week. According to L. Volkov, each weekly protest gradually reduces the number of participants, which would be a demotivating factor.
But he said: We will organize them properly and make sure to organize big ones. [demonstracijas] spring and summer.
Volkov called for Putin’s United Russia party not to be allowed to win the September parliamentary elections and to actively pursue a new package of sanctions against the Kremlin regime, increasing pressure to release Navaln.
