Ambulance doctors and police were summoned to a garden community in the Anykščiai district in June last year. The young man, who called the general helpline, reported that he had noticed a baby dumped in a field-like setting in a garden house, the prosecutor’s office said.
The hasty doctors immediately suspected that the young woman found in the house had just given birth. They took her to the hospital for health problems. The stillborn baby was turned over to forensic experts. They found that the healthy, premature newborn died of asphyxia due to an external obstruction to air inhalation.
The pre-trial investigation in this case was conducted by officials from the Utena County Police Chief Commissariat, and the investigation was conducted by Valdemara Chodorcevičienė, Prosecutor of the First Prosecution Division of the Panevėžys Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to prosecutor V. Chodorcevičienė, who led the pre-trial investigation, the accused does not admit guilt in the death of the newborn.
The Penal Code provides for prison sentences of 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment for murder.
The case was referred to the Panevėžys Regional Court.
